Hey guys and gals, someone on here needs some input on what you consider the very best on the go MEAL REPLACEMENT BARS on the market. I'm not up on that subject so I told her I'd start this thread for her.
She is a Collage student and has little time to eat during the day. I suggested a protein bar such as "metrx" only because that is the only one I could think of. Any good suggestions for this gal?

I'm assuming she's like most other females and wants to watch the inches so I'd go with low carb bars... EAS has several flavors available in their Myoplex line http://register.eas.com/OA_HTML/ibeC...DspRte.jsp?a=b

Counts on how much money she is willing to spend, some boxes of bars cost over $60 at times. As well as what she really wants in a bar, but something in low carb would be more useful.

This is SARA'S POST:
QUOTE: "My problem is that I start training for my new job a week from now, and I have to be there 11 am- 8 pm 5 days in a row.. and we only get lunch break.... I can eat something quickly while I make an exuse to use the restroom.. what is something that I can eat so quickly that got carbs/protein/fat??? (shakes won't work, because I can't fit a bottle in my purse )
Ideas anyone?"

bars have to much crap and hidden ingredients in them sick with MRP (myoplex delux, Prolab, or make your own)

Posted by: Premo55

You can make your own bars...but really that's a bit of a hassle....Personally the only products I can whole-heartedly stand behind are BIOTEST Grow! bars, because I believe in the company's integrity and their tendency to cut out fillers like maltodextrins, gums, wheat proteins, gelatin, and crap like that. I think looking for a Biotest Low Carb Grow bar would be a good choice.

Peace.

EAS Myoplex Carb Sense Bar, Creamy Peanut butter flavor, EXCELLENT nutrionally and by FAR my favorite tasting bar...

I have found boxes of 12 for around 20 dollars online...

To me, they sort of taste like Reese's Peanut butter cups...

If the bar tastes good it's probably not very good for you

Some of the grocery stores carry those now... their next to the slimfast crap and atkins products.

I agree that while these bars aren't the best thing to eat, I think they are better then skipping a meal altogether.

Better then nothing right BF? I agree to that. It seems that is this gals position. No time between classes so what is a gal to do? lol

Derek, I trust EAS, they are a very large company and with all of the label testing going on these days, i VERY much doubt they are anything but what is on their label, which is pretty good imo...

Each serving of 1 bar contains: Calories Calories 250 Calories from Fat 60 Total Fat 7 g Sugars 0 g Saturated Fat 4.5 g Cholesterol <5 mg Total Carbohydrates 20 g Impact Carbs 2 g Other Carbs 19 g Sodium 210 mg Potassium 40 mg Dietary Fiber <1 g Protein 29 g

Nutrition facts vary slightly with each flavor.

Ingredients: Protein Blend (calcium casseinate, hydrolyzed gelatin, whey protein isolate, soy protein isolate, milk protein isolate and whey protein concentrate), glycerine, water, casein, oligofructose, maltitol, palm and palm kernel oils, canola oil. nAtural flavors, skim milk powder, milk mineral concentrate, soy bean oil, yogurt solids, malic acid, monoglycerides, citric acid, licorice root extract, lecithim, salt, tumeric oleorosin color, vitamin and mineral blend (ascorbic acid, magnesium oxide, copper gluconate, ferric orthophosphate, dl-alpha-tocopheryl acetate, biotin, niacinamide, zinc oxide, beta-carotene, calcium pantothenate, Vitamin A palmitate, phytonadione, pyridoxine hydrochloride, manganese sulfate, riboflavin, thiamin mononitrate, cholecalciferol, potassium iodide, mixed tocopherols, cyanoccobalamin, chromium chloride, folic acid, sodium molybdate and sodium selenite), maltodextrins and sucralose. May contain traces of peanuts, various nuts and seeds.

I never trust the carb counts on bars. I always include everything, minus the fiber.

Posted by: HoldDaMayo

I mainly count sugars

EAS sucks. Honestly, I hate them and the products they peddle, especially that Phosphagen stuff that's basically a highly glamorised creatine monohydrate powder with some idiotic high-glycemic transportation system that could be just as easily replicated with a home-made dextrose/malto blend. Besides, you don't even need high-glycemic carbs for creatine transport, anyway. EAS is less offensive than MuscleTech, but I put them around the same level. Only product I would use from EAS is Simply Whey, but Optimum has SW beat by a LOONNNGGG shot anyway...

Also, the glycerine count in Carb Sense is actually pretty high, y'all already know that you're supposed to list ingredients in terms of quantity...most supplement companies bend nutritional board regulations by listing Protein Blend (usually manifests itself as some technological babble like Metamyosyn or Proaminogen2000 or something) first, so you don't see maltodextrin or glycerine first on the ingredients list. I don't know if I'm making sense. Basically I don't trust ANY bars, most of them are pure sugar alcohol sandwiches.

While everybody varies in terms of how well their bodies handle sugar alcohol, I put maltitol, sorbitol, xylitol, glycerine, etc. etc. right up there with fructose, maybe even worse, for potential body fat gain. I know bars hurt my progress a lot when I used to eat them regularly.

Peace.

The fat in those EAS bars are terrible, too. Palm kernel oil and soy bean oil? Trust me, go with Biotest bars.

Peace.

Thanx firestorm and thanx everyone
My choices are between EAS and Met-Rex or Muscle-tech
I won't have the bars on daily basis.. just for that week

Posted by: firestorm

Those are far worse than the recommendations I originally gave you.

Posted by: donescobar2000

EAS has trans fat and most likely so do the others. Eewwwwh! How about getting a decent MRP drink like Micellean or Lean Mass Matrix. The use EFAs and Complex carbs. Just my 2 cents.

Posted by: Big Baby

most bars are counterproductive. they have soy-isolate which might as well be an estrogen pill. the labeling is misguiding they almost use gelatin (collagen or hydrolized collagen) and then they count it as protein.
a meal replacement powder is the way to go. all you need is water to mix with. it takes like 10 seconds, and it is way better for you.

Posted by: atherjen

I agree with everyone else. Im anti-bar. ever read the ingredients.. and how can you be sure of what your REALLY getting. they're far too overly processed. Id spend the money from buying bars on preparing some whole food to pack ahead.. and if thats not an option then pack some protein powder for those times that you cant grab any real food.

Posted by: Premo55

soy isolate gets an undeserved bad rap. I've seen vegan bodybuilders build muscle successfully with soy isolate, with serum testosterone levels that are just as high as a meat-eating bodybuilder. It's all a myth. Personally I eat tofu for one or two protein+fat meals per week, for the benefits of isoflavones.

Peace.

Are you talking about the Detour bar? detour got lots sugar...

what other recommendations you have that don't have lots sugar?
Jodi, you look great in you'r new avi!

Posted by: sara

I meant Eas (myoplex) is that ok?

Posted by: Jodi

They all have sugar and those that don't have trans fat in them so your better off with the ones with a little bit of sugar. Trioplex was my suggestion. Even though the label is wrong it is still better than EAS or Muscletech

Posted by: sara

what's the nutri info of the Trioplex bar?

Posted by: Jodi

Its on Leah's site in the trioplex thread. The link is in there.

Posted by: sara

I bought the Myoplex (carb sense bar)
250 cals
7 fat
4 saturated fat
22 carbs
2 fiber
3 sugar
17 other carbs
29 protein

and Met-rex bar which I'm going to take back to the store and get some other good bar instead
310 cals
8 fat
7 saturated fat
25 carbs
2 fiber
2 sugar
34 protein

I kinda want to keep the myoplex bar, it sounds ok... but Jodi knows better

Posted by: Jodi

Sara whichever ones you want. I've given you my suggestions, there is nothing more I can do.

Thanx Jodi
I already looked at the link there, but I can't see the sugar content of the bar? do you know it?

Posted by: HoldDaMayo

You'll have to let me know what flavor you ordered and how you like them, I'm about out and need to restock =)
