Atkins diet working for me

(CLICK HERE here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

I just wanted to share some info about my current dieting status. I've been on Atkins diet for about two weeks and have lost about 5LBS and feel great. I workout in the gym also and run about 1-3 mi. per day. I'm decreasing fat and increasing muscle. The first couple days of the diet was hard.... depriving my self of carbs... but now it's great. A lot of people on this forum don't support Atkins... because they feel it's temp. but I know a few people who've used Atkins, lost the weight and have been able to keep it off. Hopefully I'll be able to do the same.

Hi Reese - you might want to do some reading on cyclical ketogenic diets. Atkins really isn't the best for anyone concerned with increasing muscle in my opinion. The ckd is similar but incorporates a weekly carb up. I have come to feel that carb up is very important to maintaining lean body mass.

also, i'd suggest using some healthier fats than typical Atkins diet.

i nearly forgot....congrats on your progress so far!

Keep plugging away at it. I started the week before TG-day and have lost 15lbs and feel great. To hell with what people think, it is the science that matters to me and the fact that it works or not for the individual. It isn't for everyone but I enjoy it.

After I loose some more weight I too may look into the other Keto diets. Good idea.

not sure how to vote. i don't support atkins for anyone active but i do support plans that incorporate some of the same principles. i'm still going to say no since i believe carb ups are definitely needed and better fat choices are in order.

I say....if it's working for you.....great! KEEP U P THE GOOD WORK.......

i will not follow it though due to dif. goals......but congrats...keep us posted...feel good about yourself......

FUCK THE ATKINS DIET

because of this stupid shit the egg prices are going up and are at a 20 year high !!!!!

Posted by: Dale Mabry

not to mention bacon, beehotch.

i see nothing wrong with the atkins diet, at least not the current version that allows veggies and good carbs.

Posted by: sYkboY

BigBellaGA? Is there a "Y" missing from the end of your sig? I thought it might be an honest mistake. You don't seem to be very gifted, so I thought I would help. Anyway, you come here just to look like an asshole? I could understand why a skinny little Bella wouldn't like the Atkins(aka ketos) you probably need as many calories and carbs as possible to try and put on some mass. Good luck with that.

Hahahahahahaa, this is good stuff. Why do you guys dislike each other anyway? Maybe I could heal the pain.

Posted by: sYkboY

I don't not like him, hell I don't know him and he doesn't know me. I just don't care for the attitude. He seems pretty arrogant. He may be a good guy, just seems to post abrassively.

275 lbs at 33.9% BF = 181.8 lbs of lean mass

258 lbs at 31.9% BF = 176.2 lbs of lean mass

Therefore that 17 pound weight loss has also lost you over 5 pounds of muscle, which is what Atkins and other diets like it generally do to you. Your goal of 245 at 28% is a good goal because it will allow you to maintain your 176 lbs of lean mass.

Congratulations on your weight loss and keep going, but don't discount people who have done weight loss (myself over 50 lbs.) without resorting to these diets.

Posted by: sYkboY

Yep, I wouldn't. This just seemed like a good idea at the time. I plan on moving to something different in the not to distant future.

I was 33.9% at 270, I have that weight wrong. I could not remember at the time.

Congrats on your work as well! People like you give others that extra motivation by showing that it can be done.

Why the hell was this thread bumped? It makes no sense to vote on a Dec. 2003 thread.

I make sure to bump all threads with Balla in them to make sure people don't forget how awesome he is

Its not a particularly good diet if ur looking to maintain muscle. bcos ur body is starved of carbs it uses the protien in ur diet as a energy source therefore not enuf protien left 4 ur muscles so some of the weight you lose will be muscular rather than bf. Can be good if your lookin to lose weight fast. Wouldnt stay on i 4 too long tho an would follow it up with a detox. all those ketones building in the liver cant be good 4 u!

From what I have seen from several people I know I would never even consider the Atkin's diet. One guy I know has zero muscle tone and his skin looks weird, like it is just hanging on the bones on his arm. My nieces husband lost so much muscle mass I can hardly beleive it. Then my niece looks like a walking cadaver. I wonder if these people convince themselves that they look good and feel healthy.

The atkins diet is not a healthy one.... To much protein and lack of greens is never good......

I think the Atkins diet might be a good idea for someone who is morbidly obese, but needs to jumpstart fat loss. However, for the vast majority of people, I think it is a bad idea. You can be skinny with an unhealthy heart and circulatory system.

I agree, 2 co-workers went on that diet and the looked gross. They never had energy and their breath stunk like ass. All that punishment to just gain the weight back again.

No you can't, greens have carbs if I'm not mistaken.

depends what you mean by greens you can eat salad

Im using the ckd and its awesome. I dont think i go without carbs for more then two weeks. I always eat like spinach or a dark lettuce everyday or you'll be clogged because of the lack of fiber

Posted by: ph8bringer

My dad was fat and took the atkins diet, And he lost alot of weight. However, I would never take it because it's the complete opposite of the goals I am aiming for.

Posted by: Vieope

I canīt understand how someone can live more than a week without carbs from sweet, sweet chocolate.
