I try not to snack at all, but this time of year it seems to get the better of me.

I am looking for some good ideas on snack foods that I can fill the house with. I figure if I have good stuff around me I'll be able to fight off the temptation of sugary stuff.

Well, you really shouldn't snack in between meals much. You should be eating every 2.5-3 hours as it is.

Try having some fresh veggies. If you need something sweet, S/F Jello can help.

No I do not snack. I was offering suggestions to others. I would NEVER suggest S/f FF pudding especially for a snack. It has 70 cals per serving and approx. 12G Carbs when prepared per serving. Not really a low cal/low carb snack.

Also rather than snacking how about hot liquids, they seem to crave any sort of craving for me.. or just to have "something" to sip on rather then eating...if your not actaully hungry ask yourself why you are craving something.
I find a cup of coffee or herbal aids is satisfying enough.

Jodi, I snack on hot cocoa or hot tea.... is that ok?

Posted by: Randy

Sara,

That is no snack..that is a drink. Snack is something you eat
Like Nut Fudge, brownies, ice cream, carmel corn, cracker jacks

if you're hungry, try mixing some hot cocoa with a pack of Splenda, a teaspoon of cinnamon, nutmetg and two teaspoons of psyllium husk. The fiber in the cocoa and the psyllium husk will make the drink thick and satisfying, and we know fiber contributes no calories. Good for digestion, too. It's what I do when I'm truly craving something. Psyllium husk= the most useful food I've ever bought. Ever.

Peace.

You come up with the weirdest things

Premo..eww.. pysillium in cocoa? blah i've done just cocoa w/splenda before to make a homemade version of hot choc. its actaully pretty good

What is Psyllium husk?

Posted by: Randy

Psyllium is native to Iran and India and is currently cultivated in these countries. The seeds are used.

In addition to its traditional and current use for constipation, psyllium was also used topically to treat skin irritations, including poison ivy reactions and insect bites and stings. It has also been used in traditional herbal systems of China and India to treat diarrhea, hemorrhoids, bladder problems, and high blood pressure.

Psyllium is a bulk-forming laxative and is high in both fiber and mucilage. Psyllium seeds contain 10-30% mucilage. The laxative properties of psyllium are due to the swelling of the husk when it comes in contact with water. This forms a gelatinous mass and keeps the feces hydrated and soft. The resulting bulk stimulates a reflex contraction of the walls of the bowel, followed by emptying.1

Psyllium Seed Husk is an excellent, non-caloric source of soluble dietary fiber. Consumption of 7 or more grams of soluble fiber from psyllium seed husk per day from Psyllium Husk Powder, in association with a diet low in saturated fats and cholesterol, may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease. Source Naturals uses only the husk of the seed, as it is a much better fiber source than the whole seed.

Psyllium Husk Powder Reduce Risk of Coronary Heart Disease, Constipation, Diabetes, Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

I HATE psyllium husk powder... blah makes me feel yucky and have to guzzle loads of water behind it. of course, it does work to get things "moving"

Posted by: bludevil

If you must snack, then why not a handfull of nuts.

Posted by: calalily1972

Nuts wouldn't be a very good choice IMO. They are very caloric dense and high in fat. Shouldn't really be used as a snack but as part of a meal instead.

Posted by: Randy

Yeah, I like ice cream better myself

Try beef jerky. It's high in protein, low in fat and will make your jaws too tired to eat anything else ....but seriously, the protein will help curb your appetite but not ruin it.

cottage cheese and mixed fruit/applesauce/pineapple (there's fat free and 1 or 2% if you're worried about fat)

great high protein, low carb, low fat snack.

just be careful. its addicting.

Posted by: bludevil

I just mixed 1/2 cup of cottage cheese, 3 tsp of almond butter and 1 packet of splenda. Mix it all together then top with fiber one cereal. Oh my god, it was good. This is definatedly going to be my night time meal from now on. Oh yeah, I'm adding in 1 scoop of choc protein pwdr as well.

Add Cinnamon to it too its awesome. See I've been trying to tell people this same meal and everyone thought I was gross.

Posted by: Randy

I just made nut fudge. Oh my god....it melts in your mouth. I knew there was a heaven somewhere

Yeah I got the idea from one of your recipe's on Avant's forum. For some reason, it tasted just like a cream cheese cake. I'm thinking of mixing the fiber one cereal with Pam to make a pie crust and using the other stuff as a filling. Anyways, I love your recipe.

Naughty boy Randy!

Posted by: Randy

Yeah I know Jill. But the season only comes once a year so I like to indulge. I guess it's a good thing. It allows for me to set the New Years resolution to work those calories back off
