I've heard that if you stop resistance training, but continue to eat enough your hard earned muscles will not decrease in size, even after years away from the gym. You will lose muscle strength, but not muscle mass. You would only lose the muscle if you diet. Is this true?

Not true.

Use it or lose it.

I've stopped training a few times in my life, and lost most of my size, not all, but quite a bit.

No.

no, that's not true. if you stop working out you will start loosing muscle. the longer you go w/out, the more you'll loose. you won't start loosing right away, but about two weeks is tops that you can take a break w'out sacrificing muscle.

agreed, you will not lose it in 2 weeks.

Hi,

that's why there's the common mis-conception that 'muscle turns to fat'. If you don't work the muscle you lose it , if you continue to eat the same number of calories you will store the excess as fat. This obviously won't happen in 2-3 weeks but over a longer period.

The up side to long breaks (talking year to years) is that you have muscle memory and will be able to build back up to what you were at before your break, age will also play a factor there to.

Muscle cannot turn into fat, just as an apple cannot turn into an orange!
