I was pissed yesterday when I went to safeway and they were out of 1% cottage cheese! So I bought 2%. The difference is minimal though- 7 cals, 1 less gram of P in the 2%, and 1 more gram of fat in the 2%. Any opinions? Does it really make a difference1%-2%?

Posted by: Jodi

I've been eating the FF or, on occassion, the 2%. I can't seem to find 1% anywhere here in AZ. So, I decided to mix them together to get 1% Jill, you could do that and it would be better for you than the 2%. Otherwise, just don't eat as much 2%.

I like 4%....the others are to light for me.

I eat 4% as well. Less lactose.

Peace.

I dont like regular cottage cheese either. I buy the organic low sodium kind. forget the name of it, havent bought it in a while actually. I found it in the healthfood section of the grocery store. good stuff!

Friendship is a good brand of cottage cheese. I like 4% large curd by Knudsen myself. I find the f/f, 1%, and 2% have too much sodium.

Cottage Cheese...shh, no talking about my rear!

On a serious note...I don't eat cottage cheese. The texture throws me off.

just the texture? what about the taste, if you really can't stand the taste.

eat it with an apple, it totaly masks the taste.

i can't eat cottage cheese with anything else, i tried once with bananas, just didn't work well, ending up chasing it with 2 cups of water

Friendship has low sodium 1%.

I love cottage cheese, I would be lost without it! My beau thinks the texture is disgusting too!

If you mix cottage cheese with Splenda, chocolate protein powder, unsweetened cocoa, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground flax seed meal, natural peanut butter and/or ground peanuts/walnuts/pistachios, freeze for about two hours, then allow to thaw for about 5-10 minutes, it tastes no different from ice cream, except it's packed with protein and essential fatty acids.

Peace.

This sounds too good to be true...Do you mean partially rotted icecream? ;p

Posted by: Premo55

^^ Dude it seriously tastes like ice-cream, if you're feelign indulgent add some dried fruit, or mix in some raisins and rum extract to get rum n' raisin, experiment with different extracts to get different flavours...I tried dessicated coconut and vanilla extract once and it was unreal...people hate on cottage cheese, yet it's so unbelievably versatile...

Peace.

^^ You know when you're on a strict diet you gotta experiment with what you've got, lol, psyllium and cocoa fills me up, so there!

Peace.

Of course. Casein is the perfect protein before bed and the fat from the PB will help slow down the digestion even more

Posted by: greekblondechic

premo! that does sound good, what kind of cottage cheese do u use?? and do u blend it in a blender or just mix w a spoon?

Posted by: derekisdman

Yes, the Greek Blonde J'lo asks a good question. I will definitely give this a try. Any chance for some kind of measurements? Thanks dude. If this comes out like you say you're my new best friend. ;p

Well you can adjust everything to your personal preference, you can use flax seed meal as the sole fatty source, or peanut butter as the sole fat source, I would add no more than 1/4 teaspoon of extract or essence as they tend to be very strong...you can use all cottage cheese or 1/2 cottage cheese and 1/2 protein powder...the only thing that's important is that you freeze it for at least an hour, and allow to thaw for 10-15 minutes, you should be able to scoop it like ice cream, as well. At least I'm able to with mine.

Personally for the chocolate recipe I add one tablespoon of cocoa, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg, 1/4 teaspoon ground allspice, 1/2 packet Splenda, 1/2 cup cottage cheese, one scoop Dymatize Chocolate (best protein powder on the market taste-wise), four tablespoons flax seed meal, 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract. I also make a syrup with one tablespoon psyllium husk, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon and 2 teaspoons cocoa, hahaha, the fiber in psyllium helps to slow the casein even more, and with the EFAs already present in this recipe, this is pretty much the ultimate pre-bed fix.

Lately I haven't been having CC at all, though, I've been sticking with a 6 ounce steak and veggies/fish oil caps before bed, but soon....

Peace.

This sounds real yummy Premo! I have some chocolate protein that is not the best tasting, I think im gonna try this!

Posted by: greekblondechic

*wishes she had some cottage cheese*

but u still didnt answer my questions...

Posted by: Jill

Greeky, Im assuming he blends it-if not I dont think the texture would be much like icecream! 1% or 2%-Im guessing either would be fine.

Posted by: JerseyDevil

I just recently tried the Friendship brand of cottage cheese as recommended in an earlier thread. Both the 1% and 2% are the best tasting CC I've had.
