I bought some new protein at costco. I got a 6lb tub for 19 bucks and it taste damn good. Would you say that three a day is really bad. One for breakfast one pre workout, and one post workout. It is low in carbs. When I have my protein shakes it almost feels like a cheat it taste so good.

there is no problem with that at all... you need the protein... just make sure you're getting enough EFA's and at least 3 meals comprised of real food a day... at least that's what I think... of course it depends on your current diet and goals, cutting vs bulking... etc....

I also read that you should be getting your protein from at least 4 different sources (I believe gopro said this in an earlier thread), so as long as your getting your daily protein intake sources from 3 other sources (eggs, chicken breast, caesin, cottage cheese, etc) you should be fine...

I get 2 scoops at breakfast
2 scoops when I get home from college or at college
1 scoop pre-workout
2 scoops post workout
and 1 scoop before bed
thats 8 scoops a day! split into 5 whey supplemented meals
I get another 4 non-whey meals throughout the day
whey is great, use as much as you want, protein is protein!
peace

I think real food is better and keeping the shakes to a minimum. I typically suggest no more than 2 per day.

Real food is always the way to go.8 scoops of protein isn`t the best way to sdo it.Whey is just that a supplement. We use them as an adjunt to the diet.Don`t supplement your supplements with food, instead supplement your food with supplements.Use them as a matter of coneinience not as your main protein source. You should be eating more food meals than supp meals.Always!

The problem with 3 shakes a day is that if you have any sort of gastrointestinal problems, IBS, food allergy or intolerances towards whey or lactose, this can really make you sick. Even if you normally do not get sick, this is a larger amount and it may do that. Try to stick with more real food like Jodi said and if you decide to go to 3 shakes a day, monitor yourself closely. Hardasnails had a problem with this quite recently, look for his thread from the other day.

thanks dear,
I think if you are going to do all that whey you better take lactase enzyme as a precaution becuase you can make your self allergic to food !!

I'm a newbie to bodybuilding/supplementing, but I'm starting up really soon. I have a few questions though. Since when bulking you are supposed to get 1.5-2g of protein per lbs you weigh...and my weight is 170, so thats like 255 g of protein. W/ 3 shakes you'd be close to 120 g. Thats still 135 grams left for protein straight from foods. Is this not good? To meet your daily needs when bulking, dont you have to take about 3 shakes?

To gain weight you have to simply take in more calories than you burn off.Whole food is the best way to go with protein supps used in moderation.

No way bro.
If you can't eat all your protein from real food, powder is a great way to get it.
i eat like 5 or 6 shakes/day. of course they supplement my food though, i dont depend on them. For instance, a day of eating might consist of egg whites, toast, oatmeal and a shake for breakfast. Then tuna and cottage cheese for lunch. Chix sandwich and a shake a while before the workout. A shake immediately for Post workout. Chix/steak/hamburg for dinner w/veggies. Then chix sandwich and shake. Then a shake before bed.
I'm bulking and i have a fast metab, so i always need more cals...

more whey > more protein = more muscle
whey has its advantages, quick absorbtion, and you have not got to cook it, it is also cheap
smart people who are too busy to cook all day long and want to get noticable results should be taking a good 4 whey(double size) shakes a day IMO - hence my 8 scoops a day
yes I still eat real food, but i'm broke so its hard to eat 8 steaks and veg a day, a shake a piece of fruit and some weetabix is a far more convenient meal for me
