...or so it looks...may not be a done deal.....

Alex Rodriguez will be playing third base for the Yankees this season, alongside shortstop Derek Jeter, if Newsday is to be believed.

The 600,000-plus circulation newspaper on suburban Long Island, N.Y., reported on its web site Saturday afternoon that A-Rod is so desperate to get out of Texas that he'd be willing to switch positions. Second baseman Alfonso Soriano would be going the other way, leaving New York.

However, ESPN's Jayson Stark reports that, according to a baseball official with knowledge of the negotiations, it's not a done deal quite yet. The official said "issues remain" that still could stand in the way of the deal being completed.

It won't concern me until postseason cause I'm an Oakland A's fan.

Posted by: Flex

you've GOT to be f#ckin' kidding me

Posted by: I Are Baboon

What about all the Texas Rangers shit about A-Rod being around for a long time, making him captain, etc. Soriano is an awesome player. Does A-Rod make the Yankees that much better than they were?

Regardless, the Red Sox are still a great fucking team. They addressed every need that had to fill. I say BRING ON the Yanks.

BTW, message for Theo Epstein:

FUCKING SIGN NOMAR, LOWE, PEDRO, AND VARITEK!

Posted by: Pepper

The story that link goes to has changed. It still looks like a done deal, but they have backed off of the above quote.

Posted by: gr81

god damnit!!!! Fuck the god damn yankees, f'n cheaters if you ask me!

Posted by: brennan

Sox management dropped the ball on this deal...ARod will go from being almost most loved player in Boston to most hated without playing a game yet...Sox still gonna win

So True but....

The sox have the same for a front office,
NOMAR, Pedro, and Lowe, especially NOMAR,
will probably look like the CAT that swallowed
the CANARY when the sox resume negotiations with
these players....

The sox front office better swallow a LARGE slice
of HUMBLE pie and make things right for & with these guys!

^it certaintly looks that way doesn't it?

That whole A-Rod deal could not have worked out worse for Boston.

is it actually final?

All it needs is Commissioner approval.

100% true. Sox management blew it big time on this one. The Sox still have a excellent team, but the way this whole A-rod thing was handled pisses me off. It's one thing to blow the trade, but it's another to blow the trade and piss off two future Hall of Famers (Manny and Nomar) in the process. The Sox better win this year, because 2005 could very well suck.

This trade has made Boston so quiet
that you could hear New York

Posted by: IainDaniel

Trade has been approved by the league

Posted by: Yanks20

too funny! i couldn't believe it myself, but then again never underestimate the power of the yanks making a deal.

Posted by: oaktownboy

^^^the power of money shouldn't surprise anyone

Boston's been quiet for weeks now, since the Trot Nixon signing.

You know the old saying, "too many chiefs, not enough indians"
They could self destruct over "I'm boss", "I'm better" situation.

Well, now that the trade is official,
Boston is so quiet that
you could hear a rat run across cotton...

I CAN'T WAIT for the first game
between the Sox and The Yanks;
it'll have ALL the hype of OCTOBER!

What do you expect to hear out of Boston?

Posted by: DFINEST

Either a disgruntled fan cursing Red Sox front office, the boss, or
Sox team members affirming, with conviction, that they're the team to beat regardless of who the Yanks have....

I have not heard anything

it is a well known fact that Tupac hated the Yankees.

I heard something about Greg Maddux maybe signing with the Yankees as well

Maddux has signed a three year deal with the Cubs, according to ESPN. And if he did sign with NY, I'd add to what Flex said and say "Fuck Greg Maddux!", but Maddux is off the hook.

Has someone been eating some sugar products?

Posted by: Yanks20

and now john henry the red sox owner is crying about how there should be a cap system. just because he couldn't sign A-Rod. what a fucking joke the sox are. cannot wait to see how well Nomar plays this year (actually he will probably play really well cause there is no way he is gonna sign a new contract with them after what they did)

Posted by: Pepper

Crying or no, there HAS TO BE a cap system or baseball will fail.

I must admit, John Henry is just sour because he couldn't seal the deal and Yankees did.

That said, you deserve a kick on the balls for the "fucking joke" comment, so this is for you:

Posted by: Pepper

The BoSox have no moral authority to talk about spending, they have the 2nd highest payroll. With that said, something must be done along the lines of what they have in the NFL.

Do the NY teams have such an advantage in the NFL? Hell no, b/c the field is level.

Time for the owners to get nasty with the union and get a hard cap. Do they have the balls to do it? Hell no.

Posted by: Dale Mabry

I would imagine that John Henry would only supporta salary cap that was around that of what he spends. There should be a cap, but I would bet a million dollars that he will bitch when the cap is much lower than what he is spending.

Posted by: DFINEST

^Exactly...
John Henry needs some cheese with his whine.
