sorry couldnt resist!

Posted by: camarosuper6

I love them as well, and they have lycopene

However, they also cause your stomach to produce a lot of acid, and I happen to have acid reflux

Posted by: JLB001

I didn't have any problems using tomato while cutting. My body likes them and red meat when cutting. It reacts well to them. But then people react differently. I don't start watching sodium until the last week. I do sodium load instead of a carb deplete. It works much better and I don't look flat or hold water.

The carotenoid nutrient Lycopene is found in tomatoes and
tomato-based foods like: tomato juice, tomato sauce & pizza.
Lycopene protects cells and other structures in the body from oxygen damage.

Tomatoes are also good sources of Vitamins C and A, two antioxidants that travel through the body neutralizing dangerous free radicals.

These as well as other nutrients found in tomatoes have been shown to offer protection against cancer and cardiovascular diseases.

They are also a good fiber source and contain Vitamins K, potassium and biotin. We could go on and on ....

I grow my own tomatoes in my garden . They taste far better than store-bought tomatoes. So, try to grow your own . You'll be surprised with how many tomatoes you can grow in a few pots on your porch.

Is that the only thing bad about restaurants ? Tell us more.. really!!

Posted by: CowPimp

I don't know much about their nutritional benefits, but I am primarily Italian; I think my body might go into shock if I didn't get tomatoes into me once every couple of days.

Posted by: willus72

most veggies in resturaunts come in pretty sorry (tomatoes the worst by far) we dont get choice produce we just take what the farmers send, and for cst reasons they cant be getting sent back all of the time. good resteraunts will try to cut out any bad parts but it is imposable to get all of it out. Ive also worked in resteraunts where the managers frown upon going through the process of cutting everything out because of labor. I work at olive garden right now and it is by far the cleanest, safest reseraunt i have ever worked at but i still wont eat the veggies. Most resteraunts will pre prep the veggies to save on labor costs, but to save themselves from a surprise Quality inspection the will not put all of the over prep in according days but rather leave big mixes or such for days on end untill they can get them all in the appropriate bags. Ive seen mixes at the olive garden go as long as 2 weeks before it got used up. the thing with the veggies is that even when they get all soft and slimey after they get cooked nobody can tell if they are bad or not. here are a few of the resteraunts that ive worked in with a list of stuff to stay away from

panera bread-any of the hot sandwiches, standard procedure is to cool any leftover sandwiches in the cooler over night then warm them again in the morning.

subway-please do not eat here, one of the unsafest places i have worked

all night diners are usually very foul, due to low incomes and high labor. they tend to try to cut costs by being unsanitary. one i actually worked at would allow cooks on the line to drink beer and smoke cigarrets while cooking to save money from break periods.

wendys, burger king- foul

olive garden mostly safe stay away from veggies, salad is great, but dont get the extras-tomatoes jalepinos olives etc...

prison and bootcamp foods are very clean surprisingly, but taste like crap lol

anytime you go out try to get meat dishes with minimal veggies. because of quality inspections and the high risk of disease meats are always paid careful attention to and are always sanitary.

and yes the dreaded drop the food on the floor then recook it happens EVERYWHERE. it is an unspoken practice but it goes on. everything gets cooked at such a high temperature that you wont get sick but you still might be eating dirt particals. i apologize if i ruined anybodys dining experiances with this but people should know what they are getting themselves into.

is this what you were looking for vieope?

YES

I canīt thank you enough. It is always good to know what is really going on at restaurants.
After I saw Fight Club and a episode of Seinfeld I started to pay more attention to this.

yeah i now what you mean. my girlfriend is always trying to get me to take her to dinner. i cant do it i always offer to cook her dinner instead. ill tell you what is simple and easy if you like tomates though:
slice and salt the tomates then bake them for a litlle while untill soft and warm. omg is it good. sometimes i season them a little and sometimes with spicy meals ill chop them into like 1" squares and season them with crushed pepper and ceyanne. i love it. with this i like to sprinkle with some sharp chedder before i bake and wow its like a dish buy itself.
not to turn this into a recipe thread but sometime try to chop them up and put them in with homeade maceroni and cheese, mmmm

wow i love food. i think i can finally eat now. thanks

You really should post some of your recipes in the "Healthy Recipes" forum.

Good lord!

I used to work at a place that catered to vegetarians. We served meat dishes too, but had all kind of veggie dishes (ie, 3 veggie lunch, etc.).

We recieved a veggie truck every other day, and selected what veggies we would take on. It was my job to meet the truck in the morning and do the actual selection (by crate/box). While our tomatoes were not the ripest, they were not bad by any stretch of the imagination. I figured all restaurants did the same. Shame on them if they dont.

Posted by: willus72

yeah in specialty resturaunts like that things are usually done a bit differently. i may be wrong, but im guessing the prices for food arnt cheap right?

also i thought id add one more thing. keep up wth what is in season. veggies and fruits that are in season tend to be on the safer side because of its abundants. when its out of season farmers will store it for a while before it gets sent to the produce company, sometimes it will even be frozen, which causes veggies to rot faster once thawed. towards the nearing of a in season veggie they tend to get real bad because of the length of time stored. now i live in Pa and i am only speaking from my local experiances. things may be different in other states but as for pa and probably most of the northeast this is how it goes (again with the exception of specialty resturants. if you live in florida i highly recomend going to season52 its a branch of darden (olive garden, red lobster, bahama breeze, etc..) they change the menu on a weekly basis to reflect the in season goodies. i have yet to eat there but have heard great things hopefully i will get to try it when im in disney in may

A thread on tomatoes that is 2 pages long? I just couldn't resist posting to it

You just ain't had a tomato until you've had a Jersey tomato right off the vine. Anything else just ain't the same

I worked at a Chi Chi's while I was still going to school. They had the 3 second rule. If it's been on the floor less than 3 seconds it goes back on the plate.

Ummmm, tomatoes with a pinch of garlic
powder sprinkled on top.......
yummy for my tummy
