I can't stand the "real oats". I tried adding water and heating it up. It was disgusting!!!! I like the maple and brown sugar instant oatmeal. Is this bad because of the sugar???? Will I get the same effects if I take the "real oats" and roll it into nat. peanut butter?

Does anyone have any good receipes for "real oats"???

Posted by: Vieope

I don´t even know if I eat "real oats" or not. Anyway, I just eat 40g of this thing a day.

Posted by: atherjen

do you mean Old fashioned oats(large flake), just plain.

hmm I cook mine in the microwave with water. then Ill add either some vanilla or cinnamon and splenda to sweeten it.

You were cheating on IM . Shame on you.

Eh, large flake rolled oats= my favourite food in the world. I'm digging into a bowl now. I mix in 4 (!!) packs of Splenda and cook it with some banana essence and cinnamon sticks, then top with a little ground nutmeg. Do NOT used the flavoured oatmeal in a pack. You're better off even eating a chcolate bar than those for breakfast.

Peace.

The instant packs are horrible.

Oatmeal makes a wonderful natural facial too..... Just did it as my skin was wiggin out.

Long time no see CQ!

Try cooking raisins with it(keeps it from boiling over too). Then maybe adding a cut up banana to it with cinnamon and a little sweetner and some low fat/skim milk. You can also try cooking it with lowfat/skim milk instead of water.

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwww. raisins....nasty

I'm Curious-- How do you make this Facial??? Would love to try it!!

you can try steel cut oats or irish oats (sold in a tin) you may prefer the taste of those. the instant flavored varieties are absolutely loaded with sugar. also, for the regular plain (slow cook) oats - i make them into pancakes (add egg whites and cottage cheese) so that's another idea you might like.

Personal Fav as of late...Regular Oats, water...nuke it....tablespoon of natty PB, splenda and voila yummy oatmeal....

Natty PB makes everything taste better...sort of.

^ I'm not a big fan of mixing fats and carbs in the same meal. It does sound tasty though.

Peace.

Flavored Oatmeal — Go to your pantry right now and get out your oatmeal. If you took out a colorful box full of little kiddy packets of peaches ‘n cream oatmeal, do yourself a favor and kick that shit to the curb! As stated above, we think oatmeal is one the best carb sources for bodybuilders, but the flavored, prepackaged variety sucks.

Look at the ingredients, which are listed in order of quantity. Sugar is usually the second ingredient in these girly oatmeal packets. Then you have other crap like salt, hydrogenated vegetable oils, maltodextrin, and partially hydrogenated soybean oil.

To top it off, the oats used in flavored oatmeal are usually more finely ground than healthy, old fashioned oatmeal. This means the GI could be higher based on the extra processing. The list of ugly ingredients goes on and varies a little with flavoring, but the lesson is simple: don’t eat this stuff if you want to look good nekid.

Just cook your oatmeal and let it cool a bit and spread it on. Oatmeal is the same ph as your skin so it is a wonderful soother. Leave on for 5 to 10 minutes and wash...... You can get oatmeal bath packets at any store. Aveeno makes them and most generics ie Walgreens. Pretty darn simple

But I thought high GI isn't a bad thing at breakfast time? That is supposing you're not afraid of sugar.

Also, this is totally untrue:

Say what you want, but I think instant oatmeal is great in the morning when you don't have time, and has a better than decent nutritional profile, unless you're deathly afraid of sugars in the morning.

Plus, I am more concerned with how many calories I am eating/burning, than which type of rolled oat I eat for breakfast. I personally find that eating less calories than I burn causes me to lose weight, no matter the source. That's just me.

Try adding applesauce. I usually nuke 1 cup of oats with 2 cups of water and then add about 1 cup of applesauce. Good stuff. In fact I think I'll make some now.

OMG I DO THIS EVERY DAY!!!!

I use 1/3cup oats
1/2 tbsp nat. pb
1 packet splenda, water & microwave
YUMMMMMY

Thanks Courtqueen!! Sounds Easy!

What is it good for?? For soft skin? a healer?? do ya know?

Women ..
Actually I am taking notes myself.

10 grams of sugar, and you don't think that's a little excessive? Most people eat breakfasts to energise them and nourish themselves for the day ahead. High GI carbs are unsatisfying and cause insulin spikes/sugar crashes. Do what you will, but I like low GI carbs before and after workouts.

Peace.

do the quick cooking oats in the buckets, not the packets, they take just as long in the micro to nuke. for starters there ain't that crappy sugar in it and you get more out of a half cup serving from regular oatmeal, then you do from a serving of the instant stuff

Stacey - I have really sensitive skin so when ever it gets irritated I'll put it on just to stop the redness and it really helps with dryness - but I think the only thing that can really help in that department is for me to move to a better climate...... damn Colorado - tooooooooo dry

The absolute best way to eat Oatmeal is with berrys. If you put any type of berry in the microwave ie. strawberry, blueberry, rasberry, blackberry on top of your oatmeal the berry will soften and begin to bleed its juices into the Oatmeal creating flavor. This is what I do and I have no problem downing 3 cups per day.

Greeky, what do you not add coco and sweetner to? Sound good though , except I cant get cherries here right now.

i don't understand how everybody hates oatmeal, i love that stuff if i don't eat it everyday i feel lost, i love the nutty texture and flavor of it and there are so many different ways to make it, my favorite combo of spices is cinnamon with a dash of vanilla flavouring, dash of nutmeg, and dash of ginger. throw in a couple tbls. of walnuts or sliced almonds or pecans and it is grub. and when i feel like gettin crazy i throw in a banana or blueberries when in season. you can also try stuff like no sugar applesauce in it too

Posted by: aztecwolf

but maybe i'm just partial to it cause of my irish/scottish heritage

Posted by: Jill

I agree with ya-except I dont eat naners or apple sauce. I use strawberries or would actually rather have a protein pancake!!

Posted by: Jill

I dont think many people around here hate oaties-its quite the opposite!

Posted by: aztecwolf

well i just always see these things like i hate oatmeal, can't stand oatmeal, how to make oatmeal taste good, i mean damn i eat the stuff straight from the tub sometimes, i guess i;m just barbaric like that, same thing with tuna, give me a can and a little mustard and i am set
