The owner of the local fitness shop said postworkout you need carbs, ASAP, then protein. He hadn't heard of people taking 'whey and dextose'. WHat do you all think? He said any hardgainer should be taking in any carbs pwo, they are the most important.

I fully agree, but he's apparantly not all that brushed up on his nutrition skills. Dextrose is pure carbs

Posted by: Jill

How about gatorade and whey Jodi? Ive heard people using that too.

Posted by: Jodi

That is not as beneficial for someone bulking as the whey and dextrose, IMO!

Posted by: sara

What natural food soure we can get dextrose?

Posted by: PreMier

Dextrose is sugar... Cheap sugar

If you're bulking I say protein and carbs are equally important, not carbs before protein.

I have pretty much dropped my simple carbs pw since I started cutting though, and it's working well for me. PW all I have is about 50 grams of whey protein.

then forget the detroxe.. I'll stick with rice and potatoes

Whey is good, but I think egg whites are slow digesting.

Posted by: sara

nothing else except for whey? what if you don't use whey, or try to avoid the usage of whey protein

Posted by: I'm Trying

You can eat a lot off different things, like you said, you can eat eggs, chicken, fish, whatever. I just meant that whey is fastest absorbing. And thats going to be most benefical post w/o. You could use soy(although I never will).

Posted by: sara

But we need fast absorbing protein.. and whey is the only one?

Posted by: PreMier

The only I know of... I guess soy is too, maybe someone else will chime in to help.

Posted by: sara

Thanx PreMier
I know I've been using soy lately for lent, but after lent I will try to avoid soy

I have a protien powder that is not whey but "anabolic protein." Is this just a marketing term? On the labes is states that is has "whey isolates."

I think this is just B.S. marketing.

It's all I can get so, I might as well, as ask: what am I missing b/c I can't get true whey? Do the results add-up over time by me not having whey?

Posted by: PreMier

Mr_Snafu-- How many grams per serving, how many of that is grams of protein, how many is carbs? If I am correct it could just be whey isolate, which is a cleaner protein than just whey and better IMO.

Posted by: sara

I'll eat any lean protein Post-workout, excpet for cottage cheese and milk!
Would cottage cheese or Low carb milk be ok as Pre-workout?
I know it's good as last meal of the day.. what other meals it would be good?

Posted by: leg_press

Post work out, I usually have 1 can of tuna, two slices of wholemeal bread and a banana, and either a sports drink or a glass/ two of water

Posted by: sara

And the the protein in the tuna is helping you, even though it's slow protein?

Posted by: leg_press

I dunno, I train before I go towkr so as soon as I get to work I have a high protein lunch, maybe I should have a shake but well er I can't afford them atm, and the last time I had one they gave me stomach cramps, what other protein could I have that hasn't got to be chilled and is fast releasing then?

If you carry a tub of powder in the car- you can mix it with water ina plastic cup and drink up on the way to work and eat your regular meal 1 hour later.
