M1-T, M-dien. which one is preferable, and why?

I think the subject heading pretty much covers it. What are the deciding factors than would cause one to be preferable to the other one? Would it be erronous to classify M-dien as more of a hardening/mass supp. and M1-T as a mass/mass supp.?
