the same kind of carbs you normally eat: oats, brown rice, whole grain pasta etc.
45 mins - 2 hrs before.
personally I like to use 45 mins, b/c I feel alot stronger than if I wait too long, I feel lethargic...

One thing I'd like to add to his question, is, I've heard that you might be better off supplementing with BCAA's pre w/o, as opposed to afterwards, as well as whey
is it true?

mens health did a study showing protien synthesis was greater during the w/o as opposed to after

Before is better because they produce more insulin, so there is more glycongen in the muscles. After is also good. If you can, take it before and after. If you are poor like me, prefer to take it before.
Whey is the opposite.

Question for the experts
Would Low carb milk or Cottage cheese with good carb source be better as first meal in the morning (pre-workout meal) Or .... 3'rd meal 2.5-3 hours after Post workout meal
Meal 1 Pre-workout: oats/cottage cheese or LC milk
apple/cottage cheese or LC milk
oats/eggs/berries
which of these three is better as morning pre-workout?
Meal 2 Post-workout: rice/egg whites or shake
Meal 3 2.5-3 hours after meal 2 : should this have the cottage cheese or milk instead of 1?

I guess I'll go with the oats/egg whites as a pre-workout.. egg whites/brown rice as post workout... then cottage cheese as # 3 meal

Personally, eat a good healthy meal about an hour to two hours before the workout, and then ten minutes before, I just pop down anything with sugar in it.
Sure, I know, that's not ideal, but the instant-energy helps me
