Corticosteroids?

This is the best place I could think of to post this. I use a type of corticosteroid for my skin. Sometimes it will break out and I use it for a couple of days and it is better. So I use it off and on.

I was wondering if it could be hurting my gains. I don't know anything about medicines but I was looking at the enclosed slip of paper and it had terms like HPA axis suppression and vascoconstrictive.

well i woundlt think a catabolic steroid would help :-P

Do you think it could be affecting my gains at all? Or is it not likely with the amount I am using? I usually only use it on my feet.

whats it called... Elocon?

Its catabolic but I dont know that it would really make much difference. If you really need it to improve the quality of your life go for it. I know some people that have 2 week bouts dont take it at all, but it depends how badly it affects you if at all.

You can try a non corticosteroid cream called elidel. Studies in kids, but not necessarily adults, do show even a small amount of topical corticosteroid use can suprress the HPA axis...... so if you are concerned at all, talk to your doc about the non steroid alternative (elidel is used for eczema, rosacea, psoriasis, poison ivey...most of the conditions treated by corticosteroids.)
Here is info on the elidel. Unlike a corticosteroid, it has a novel mechanism of action on the cutaneous t lymphocytes involved in mediating alot of these cutaneous reactions.

If it is an oral steroid it will be catabolic, you can probably counter this by providing an abundance of dietary protein if the dose is low enough. Why not use a topical, most of the topicals stay mostly local and are less harmful. The orals are almost always taken in a taper bc they do supress the HPA (Hypothalmus, Pituitary, Adrenal) They are called "cortico"steroids because they come from the adrenal cortex.
Supression of the HPA means you will produce less of your own natural corticosteroids which may be a slight positive on the metabolic equation AFTER you discontinue use.
I'd look for an alternative, I don't use them even for asthma when my doc prescribes them, I do however use a super low dose cortico that is inhaled stays mostluy local and the dose is in mcg, this has NO effect on my gains

It is topical and it is Nystatin and Triamcinolone Acetonide.

I only use it when my eczema gets bad. It got so bad I missed a few days of work because it hurt to walk in my work boots. This stuff is awesome though. I have used it for a few years now whenever I have these breakouts. It knocks it out in no time.

Bandaid Women, when you say concerned, do you mean about my gains? Or something else?

In adults, we do not see suppression of the HPA axis with correct use of topical cortisone such as triamcinalone unless someone decides to take a bath in the stuff. In kids though, we do see some mild suppression of the HPA axis which is why the cream elidel has taken off with treatment of eczema in kids. It sounds like your application to the feet (least amount of absorption compared to most areas of the body) should not be a concern in terms of suppression of HPA axis. However, if you were afflicted over a larger surface area, I might suggest a non corticosteroid cream such as elidel just in case.

Ok, thanks. I am not worried about it then.
