Hey...I am trying to eat healthy but I find it nearly impossible to while I am at college. I live in the dorms so I basically have to eat shitty cafetria food. I'm also a thrower on the track team so I do get physical activity in everyday. I am not a big fan of fruits which isn't good cause it leaves me with not too many healthy foods to eat. I'm eating salads daily but I feel like I even make these unhealthy. I am 6'5, 250 pounds so it takes quite a lot to fill me up and I just feel like I'm just adding fat to me. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks

Awww...the good old days of college athletics. I know where you are coming from. I use to eat any and everything when I was playing ball, and I was actually bigger and just as lean as I am today. I sure you burn tons of calories.
Not knowing what you typically eat, I would say to make sure you intake lean protein sources, stay away from unnecessary fat, and take in good amounts of clean carbs. Sticking to a strick diet would be challenging. So if you have to eat unhealthy, do it in moderation. Also, watch your calories, decreasing too fast will affect your performance.

Hard to say without knowing exactly what "shitty cafeteria food" describes. Back when I was in uni, you could actually get quite a bit of "off menu" stuff in residence if you knew who and when to ask. Plus there's options like bar fridges and such, which can help you get a better eating schedule.
Tell us what options you've got, instead of simply dismissing it. Nothing's truly impossible if you really want to make the effort.

hmm I know that at the university I went to last term the cafeteria always had healthier foods options.
give us a list of what they offer on a normal basis.
also do you have access to a micowave that you could use
or a mini fridge or stove in the houses lil kitchenette?

Heck, I had a mini fridge and microwave in my dorm room. Plus, my building had a community fridge and microwave and stove. My dining commons was pretty damn good too. In fact, there were 4 around the whole school and you could go to any of them.

i was stuck with cheeseburgers, grilled cheeses, fries, and chicken nuggets, but i lost weight while there

Thanks guys....the food I'm stuck with really has no variety. There are fruits and salad bar everyday. Along with our grill which has greasy burgers daily(They are good but I gotta try to stay away). Other then that sometimes they have macaroni and cheese, pasta, pizza, corn, potatoes, and sometimes turkey or chicken. So yea there isn't much to choose from.

Doesn't your college have a little tiny food mart or grocery store where you are allowed to buy stuff.
I mean most colleges almost have to have a place for students to get milk, bread and eggs....find that and those thing and you will find all kinds of bbing foods. Olive oil, oats, rice pasta. You should be set.
Screw the cafeteria if they don't offer what you need to be healthy. There is bound to be some place on campus that does. For monetary reasons, find the convenience store.

I'm in university now, and I haven't eaten at the cafeteria in two years. I buy my own food, trust me you're far better off that way.
Peace.

im in college and in addition to the food i eat in the cafeteria i blow upwards of $50 a week minimum to get enough food to cover my macros

if your serious youll have to count what you eat.
personally, i would eat alot of canned stuff...make the base of my diet alot of tuna, eat oats, EFA oil...
invest in a microwave...and like they said, a minifridge.
they also sell sweet potatos in cans... apple sauce in little packets...
im just glad i commute.

Grrr I used to buy canned tuna at Costco, but then someone turned me onto those flavored tuna packets.....Damn it, they taste so good that going back to canned tuna is going to be hard. They cost a lot more to buy though.
