is taking a protein shake for breakfast a good thing?
for the last week i have been taking a protein shake (bananas lemon milk and protein) for breakfast and i wasnt sure if that will do something bad to my body.

Are you bulking or cutting?

Posted by: ugination87

im trying to cut

Posted by: Jodi

If your cutting then I would ditch the banana and the milk. Instead have your protein shake with water and don't forget some EFA's. You probably should also have some oats as well.

Bananas and milk both contain sugar. Sugar is not your friend when your cutting

hmm i see.. thanks.. and also what is EFA? haha sorry

Essential Fatty Acids

You can start by reading about EFA's and proper cutting diets in here. http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/sh...threadid=21113

Good luck.

ok thanks alot

hmm the refeeds and leptin sounds interesting...

how do u find the calories and carbs of an item that is already prepared? like fast food?>

I think a little bit of "sugar" your first meal is desirable, even when cutting. First thing in the morning after you've been sleeping/fasting is a stressful time on the body. I would say either the banana or the milk, not both, your first meal is fine.

I also use milk in my morning protein shake, along with oats...

All depends on your metabolism. The slower the metabolism the less sugar you should have so then that means you should leave out the banana and milk. If its fast then 1 or the other may not be too bad.

very true... my mom can't have ANY sugar when she's trying to lose weight.. but i can still take in 30-40g and be very successful...

nope, a little sugar meal 1 for anyone, regardless of metabolism, is fine.

To each his/her own but not everyone has your metabolism Prince and that's kind of presumptuous for you to think that its fine for everyone.

Posted by: Prince

my point is we all need some simple carbs meal 1, it has nothing to do with metabolism.

Posted by: Jodi

Well alot of us here seem to manage just fine WITHOUT the simple carbs in Meal 1 and I mean ALOT of us. I don't think need is the word your looking for

And I feel metabolism plays a HUGE role in the NEED for simple carbs

Posted by: Prince

when you first wake up you're in a fasted state, your body struggles, your brain demands sugar (glucose), the brain gets what it needs before all other organs...

Ecto's or Ecto-Meso's are in a struggling semi-catabolic state. Its is VERY unlikely and far fetched that an Endo or an Endo-meso is even close to that catabolic state. Therefore low gi carbs such as oats are an excellent choice for meal 1 especially those with a slower metabolism.

Here's a start:
Calorie King
However, whether or not you are eating sugar (I, too, wouldn't on a cut, but sugar is not my friend), I submit that eating fast food, or most ready-prepared food, isn't going to rip you terribly well.
