I have just started with a new trainer to get leaner. I am 5'6" and 125 lbs, but am holding a lot a fat in my lower body. My body fat is 18.1% (calipers).

My question is, I've been eating around 1200-1400 calories and the meal plan has me eating 2000!!! Now, it does balance protein, good fat and carbs...unlike what I was doing. I am vegetarian, but I eat fish, so it has lots of fish on it. Is this too many calories for me??? I dont want to gain, but I want to get lean.

Thanks!! I may be starting a journal becuase you guys are great!

IMO, what you were eating wasn't good enough.

Your height vs weight leads me to think you're already "lean." Seems like you need to put some meat on your body. If you want to build muscle, you're on the right path. Being as lean as you are enables to put muscle on and lean out a lot faster, than the average female.

1800 to 2000 seems perfect!

Def. start a journal hon and perhaps purchase the book: Burn the Fat feed the muslce...........Def. a MUST read

great advice babs

I would defintly increase the calories some too. 1200-1400 is not near enough for your height and weight, even for fatloss. you dont want to risk throwing your body into starvation mode and actaully holding onto the fat rather than shedding it.

as for protein- do you eat eggs? whey protein? cottage cheese?

You need to decide what you wanna do first. Gain muscle or loose fat. Doing it together is possible but it is very slow.

How about posting your complete diet here ?

I want to lose my lower body fat, but increase definition in my body..ie build. I'm leaner on top than on bottom. For example, my calipers thigh measurement is 38.

Today's meals:
Meal 1
1C cottege cheese/peach
coffee

Meal 2
apple

Meal 3
salad w/salmon and low fat dressing

Meal 4
2 slices 7-grain bread
tuna w/ff mayo

Meal 5
halibut steak
potato
salad w/low fat dressing

Meal 6
1C cottege cheese

I don't see 2000 calories there AT ALL!! Did your trainer tell you that was 2000 cals?

Not very good choice of carbs and there are no EFA's! Actually you have like no fat at all.

What is your training like?

ditto to what the others said, and that is no meal.

It was a print out with all the breakdowns of fat/protein/carbs/calories.

I left the list in my car....

Jodi - it's 30 minutes of different exercises.

Squats/ pushups/pull ups/abs this was my first session.

you need more EFA's, lean protein and complex carbs and veggies!
I dont see 2000 cals at all.

Posted by: Cate

This might be why: they wanted me to put cream in my coffee and salad dressing (but i"m using what I have)...same w/the mayo, they said reg and I have fat free.

hmm well if your not adding those fat sources you need to be adding EFA's (better choice in my opinon)

You really should add EFA's. Fish oil, flax, olive oil, nuts......

Cate, stop doing this diet. Seriously, it is really dangerous. Ready the stickies and add to your diet brown rice, oatmeal, fish, chicken breast, more vegetables, EFA, black beans, milk.. think about a lot about your diet and post again.
