My doc has put me on Minocin for ance. He said if this does not work he is going to put me on accutane. He was going to go ahead and put me on accutane, but I am not ready for the side effects.

Was your experience worth the side effect?
Did you have any side effects?

Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanx

I went on a SMALL dose of accutane and had great results...i am going to do a stronger/more prolonged treatment in a few months.

the only negatives i had were the typical dryness factor....lips cracking and dry eyes...but it really wasnt that bad...just buy some chapstick, you'll need it!

i have seen some bad cases of EXTREME sunburn from some of my friends who took it and didnt head the photosensitivity warning.....they got crispy like a KFC chicken wing...so just watch it in the sun.

i am glad you are being cautious...you should be...i finally decided to get extreme only after trying everything else...accutane did work the best by far.

I did the minocin, and all the other *cins for 10 years. Then I changed skin docs and he yelled at me for listening to the other doc. Taking anitbiotics long term has nasty side affects too. So he put me on accutaine.

My experience was very positive. Dryness doesn't even describe it. The vaseline lip care thing was the only one that worked, chapstick didn't cut it. I now have basal cell skin cancer but there has been no research to connect the two so I'm sure that I have it from too much sun exposure. That's what happens when you grow up on an island

I had an extreme case of acne and without question was put on accutane. There's a small chance of kidney problems if you take accutane so you may want to take a test first. I never did myself but the doctor urged it so much I think it's a neccisary precaution. I remember just going into the dermatologist waiting room and the attendents went "Oh baby you need Accutane"

Prepare for the most chapped lips you have had in your life. This is not an exageration nor a probability- you will get terrible terrible chapped lips. It will suck. Also, assuming you were like me, you will have a quick increase in a worsten case, followed by like no progress at all for a lengthy amount of time, and then a "shify" disappearance of acne.

it's not the most pleasant treatment, but in the long run, nothing works better. I haven't had a pimple in years and my entire face and back was completely red. Now I haven't had a zit in years. Afterwards you will likely be given creams to reduce scarring. In fact, I have been given a genital wart cream Aldara that to this day I put on my back to gradually get rid of the scarring I have on my back.

I had extreme acne. Nothing worked. You named it, I was on it. Every infomercial med, I tried. Every over the counter, I tried. Ever perscription med, I tried.

Then I tried accutane.

Hooooo leeee shit. Let me tell you; This stuff cleared me up so great. Ive been on it four months. I start my last cycle wednesday. My back, chest and face are clear, bro. It's clear. I've got redness, and scars, but damn. Those will heal. I havent had a new pimple or zit since i started it.

The sideeffects can be brutal though, especial dry skin. I've gone through tons of lotion, carmex tubes I buy in bulk and I have eye drops I use often because recently it's started to dry my eyes out.

It works though. It works. Goodluck to you.

if I'm not mistaken it can cause some back pains. If you do I think it's from fluid buildup in the spine. If this happens you should speak to your doctor. I think I had this problem with accutane and I didn't report it, but it certainly sounds like something you should check into

Keep your liver levels checked. Stuff is potent.

Oh yeah I forgot about the dry eyes. I was able to continue wearing my contacts, just had to use some more saline than usual because of the dryness.

do soomething safer and better, like smoothbeam laser, its a bit pricey but worth it if you can afford it.

I hated being on it, but it did the trick I guess. The skin dryness is a bit much to put up with in higher doses like previously mentioned, but good luck wit it

Dry skin, dry eyes, cramps, bloody left nostril, and one other horrible and embarrasing side effect. I had to lower the dose to remain comfortable with it.

I almost forgot, horribly intense joint and connective tissue pains. It got so bad I had to take time off from the gym and I almost could not drive.

When I was in my teens my doc tried everything...finally decided to try Accutane...after 5 months I never had a drop of it again...did wonders...miracle drug for me. You need to have regular blood work done....the only thing I experienced was sensitivity to the sun, sensitive eyes to bright light in the dark...and CRAZY DRY LIPSand face

I took it becasue i had acne andnothing woruld get rid of it. I always got my blood levels checked while on it, better to be safe then sorry. Chapped lips like a mofo, and also brought down my mood a little bit. I have been off for almost a year and my skin is like 95% clean, perfectly fine for me.

Its a b though

Accutane is bad stuff with the potential for horrible side effects- (this is not to say it doesn't work). Vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid) works just as well when taken in large doses. I aided in starting up a company a few years back that sells this stuff as a treatment "supplement as for FDA standards" for acne and the customers swear by it. It works best when taken with zinc and a B-complex vitamin.

Sorry to bump an older thread, was just searching back through the pages.

But anyway, I was absoultely covered in zits, for every one I could get to go away, 3 big red suckers would come right back. But after a year on Accutane, I cleared up TOTALLY. I haven't had a pimple on my face since I finished the treatment.

Buy stock in chapstick, and keep your freinds close to you.
