(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Prince

1 Cup Natural Peanut Butter (i.e. Adams)
8 Tablespoons Honey
1 & 1/4 Cups Whey Protein Powder
1 Cup Uncooked Oatmeal

Mix the peanut butter and honey in a bowl, microwave on high for 80 secs. Add the rest and mix together; can add raisins, nuts, etc., for more flavor.

Smooth into a 13x9 tray and let set for 20 minutes. Cut into 10 to 12 equal bars, wrap bars and store in fridge.

(I have not made these yet!)

Posted by: X Ring

prince do you know the stats on this bar. I could figure it out but if you had it around that would be cool

Posted by: X Ring

think you could bake it to make it finda crispy/crusty

Posted by: OmarJackson

i have made these using vanilla protein, they were amazing, but very calorie dense.

Posted by: X Ring

gotta go get some natty PB and I will try them with chocolate whey

Posted by: atherjen

if you were concerned on lowering the cals a bit you could also just makie it 1/2cup peanut butter and add in 1/2cup natural applesauce instead.

Posted by: Prince

Good idea!

I made them tonight, they're pretty good, but the fat content is obviously a bit high with all of that PB.

I may try the apple sauce idea and using more oats too.

Posted by: Jodi

I haven't tried these but they look decent.

2 Level scoops of chocolate protein powder
1 Tablespoon of natural peanut butter
1/4 Cup steel cut oatmeal
4 Egg whites
1/4 Teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 Cup unsweetened applesauce

Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Mix the egg whites and uncooked oatmeal. Add the remaining ingredients.
Spray a nonstick cooking spray in an 8"x8" baking dish. Spread the mixture in an even layer, over the bottom of the dish. Bake for about 20 minutes, or until the edge starts to pull away from the sides of the dish.

Let cool for 5 minutes and cut into bars.

Makes 9 bars.

you would have to look up each ingrediant, the amount used then divide by how many bars you divide it all into.

that sounds like waaaay too much time!

Posted by: X Ring

i have it I can look it up, it on my fitday account. I'll get back to you later on this

Posted by: X Ring

http://fitday.com/WebFit/FoodFacts.a...t=1&UnitsID=40

Here you go I made it in an 8x8 pan and cut it into 12 piece I think (might have been 10) but each serving is one bar

Posted by: mandypumpkin

I couldn't get the link to work.....help.

Posted by: mandypumpkin

What is steel cut oatmeal Jodi?

Posted by: Jodi

Steel cut oats is better for you than rolled oats. Its the oat grout that has been cut into pieces instead of rolled out. They are more dense in carbs but they are so much tastier IMO. They take 1/2 hour to cook too but OMG they are so worth it.

Now I want to get some

Posted by: mandypumpkin

Where do you buy them?

Posted by: Jodi

Any natural food store will have them. They are called Irish Oats or Steel Cut Oats. As always, DON'T get the instant kind

Posted by: X Ring

right b/c I would have to give you access to my account to do that. Hang on a sec Iwill get it

that is cut into 12 bars I think so for the whole batch you would have to multiply by 12

Thanks!!!!

I eat mine raw. Do you think that's okay? I normally have it for my second meal of the day. I mix in some flax meal and protein powder (and sometimes a little wheat bran), add milk and eat. It's one of my favorites.

Posted by: Jodi

You eat steel cut oats raw

That must kill your teeth.

Posted by: mandypumpkin

X ring: how did you come up with those numbers? I entered the info on fit day and came out with diff and higher numbers.

Posted by: X Ring

I did it on fitday entering all the stuff then divided by 12. so 1 serving is 1 bar and 1/12 of the total batch, i could have messed something up along the way, it isnt beyond me

Posted by: mandypumpkin

I was thinking...our PB and protein powder could be different, too. What protein powder do you use?

Posted by: Akateros

I think X-Ring's Fitday numbers are definitely low.

This is what Mastercook gave me, which sounds more like it:

Per Serving (excluding unknown items): 244 Calories; 12g Fat (40.4% calories from fat); 18g Protein; 21g Carbohydrate; 2g Dietary Fiber; 0mg Cholesterol; 19mg Sodium. Exchanges: 1/2 Grain(Starch); 1/2 Lean Meat; 2 Fat; 1 Other Carbohydrates.

The protein powder I used was Isoflex, 115 calories per quarter-cup scoop, 27 g protein, .5 g fat, 1 g carb, simply because that's the only one I happen to have customized into MC.

Posted by: mandypumpkin

That's much closer to what I got but I used optimum nutrition 100% whey:

calories: 293
Fat: 12.4 g
Protein: 24 g
Carbs: 23 g

I haven't made these yet because I wanted to find out the nutrition value first. Thanks for all the input!

Posted by: X Ring

I used Ultimate Nutrition Whey and I didnt use natty PB!!!! OH NO

Posted by: X Ring

thanks for that stats I will have to check mine again

Posted by: mandypumpkin

I'll recheck mine when I get time, too!

Posted by: Pierzin

I doubled this recipe, and added chocolate, raisins & nuts. I am pretty on the go at my job, and though it's pretty sweet, it's hella cheaper and better than buying a bar at $2.50 a pop!

Who has tried Jodi's recipe? What does the applesauce do the bar? Does that help in the gelling process?

Tip:
I also microwave my pb so it's way easier to mix together.

Posted by: kvyd

Jodi, what would happen if I used old fashioned oats?...no steel cuts, would I need to measure anything differently or would it work?

Posted by: Phoenix Drake

Prince, I made your Protein Bars today and although I do like the taste , they have not set. Are they supposed to be soft and sticky?

Posted by: Pierzin

phoenix,
Chill those guys, they will get nice & firm & then u can cut em up & wrap em just like the pros do! hehe. they are pretty sweet. Next time I am not adding so much honey.

YOU SURE THE PROTEIN IN THE NUTRITIONAL INFORMATION IS CORRECT ? 9 BARS WITH 34G- PROTEIN IN EACH BAR, THATS COMES OUT TO 306 GRAMS OF PROTEIN IN THE ORIGINAL MIXTURE. CAN YOU GET THAT WITH 2 SCOOPS OF PROTEIN, 4 EGG WHITES AND 1 TABLESPOON OF PEANUT BUTTER ? UNLESS THE 1/4 CUP OF STEEL CUT OATMEAL HAS ABOUT 200 GRAMS OF PROTEIN.

I actually used only half the amount of honey and they are still very sweet. I tried chilling them but they are still soft. I put raisins in mine and it tastes pretty good.

Posted by: missy24

I just made Jodies recipe -

they are good but they are like protein muffins - the consistancy is more cakey than of a bar. They are good though.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

Wifey made the bars RD detailed in the first post in this thread. They could be the tastiest bar I have ever had.

Posted by: MtnBikerChk

know what would make these even better?

Posted by: greekblondechic

What else can I use to hold them together besides peanut butter or honey?

Posted by: sara

oats, whey and egg whites..
you dont need honey or PB.. for flavor replace it with cinnamon, SF syrup and berries

Posted by: greekblondechic

do u cook them? do the require refridgeration after?

Posted by: mikeruurds

Just made these. Changed from one cup of Natty PB to 1/2 PB and 1/2 Apple Sauce. Also whacked in some ground cashews and hazelnuts.

4 tablespoons of honey was still too sweet. Gonna try egg whites to bind and less honey next time!!

Thanks for the great recipe RD!
