Ma Huang

So with the ban on Ephedra will Ma Huang be illegal to grow?

I think I can get it in it's natural state in Chinatown, I mean the guy has to have it he has almost anything else, from dried lizards hanging in his window to thousands of little drawers lining his walls. I'll just make my own mixture, green tea, a little honey, some ginseng, dash of ma huang. Anyone ever had it natural before?

I'm thinking you'd have to eat an enourmous amount of plant to get the same worth, but I dunno.

They have used it for 5000 years in it's natural form, much like brewing some tea or coffee.

How much is usually taken?
Standardized extracts supplying 12–25 mg of total alkaloids (calculated as ephedrine) per capsule or tablet may be taken. This form may be useful for monitoring total daily intake of ephedrine. A scientific review of ephedra safety4 says ephedra should be limited to no more than 30 mg per dose and no more than 90 mg per day of the ephedrine alkaloids. Use should be limited to six months or less5 . The crude powdered stems of ephedra (with less than 1% ephedrine) are used at 1.5–6 grams per day, taken as a tea.6 The crude herb can also be taken in capsule or tablet form, at 500–1,000 mg of ephedra two to three times daily. Tinctures of 1–4 ml three times per day can be taken.

ummm...you're about two days late bro.

you can still purchase ephedrine though.

Posted by: samat631

haha oh yea? hows that?

Posted by: Prince

how's what?

Posted by: samat631

how can i buy ephedrine when it is banned in ny?

Posted by: Prince

I am only aware of ephedra (herbal) being banned, not ephedrine.

Posted by: samat631

whats the difference between ephedra and ephedrine?

Posted by: brodus

You can buy ma huang still, online and retail.

And ephedrine, both HCL and Sulphate.

This ban is so stupid. I have a cold, and my ECA opens my breathing and sinuses more reliably than any OTC crap.

There's an article on Yahoo news right now about the FDA "moving quickly" to get other "dangerous" products, like Bitter Orange and Kava Kava.

Posted by: samat631

whats better, ephedra Sulphate or ephedra hcl?

is it the same thing as ephedra?

Posted by: Mudge

Ephedrine is still legal but not ephedra? I thought ephedrine was the first to go, but if thats true I WILL pick some up.

I never liked ephedra, it just doesn't do anything for me. Quite funny if that was banned and not the awesome ephedrine.

Yeah, the FDA ban basically banned the marketing of ephedra as a supplement. Since ephedrine still has legitimate use as a bronchodilator, when its sold as such, the 'ban' cant touch it.

1fast sell's bottles of vasopro E-HCL for like $8.

thats hilarious, this ban IS a joke.

Thats a friggin relief, I dont care if it isn't advertised with fancy skinny people on it.

And screw ephedra

Posted by: Prince

even if you do not use ephedra or like ephedra you should still be upset that it was banned, especially considering that the ban was completely unjust.

There is a great article in last month's (May 2004) MD that discusses the entire issue in depth.

(the current issue of MD is June 2004)
