I am 19 years old and weigh a165 lbs i can bench press 275 and im not sure if that even comes near to placing at a competition.Tha is also not wearing a benching shirt and some peaople say that can add about 30 pounds. My squat is somewhere around 400 also.I would like to get a feel for how much more gains i have to make before i can compete in power lifting.

ummm...this is not really a powerlifting board.

I am about as strong as a national level 132 pounder, I bench roughly 365. You can compete on any level though, certainly for your weight you are strong, how tall are you?

Tripple bodyweight is a bench you'd be looking at in an open organization, and quadruple deadlift in the lower bodyweight divisions.

Im kidna new to the board sorry about that.

I have no idea what I can max bench, nor do I care.

Nothing to be sorry about, its just that you will find more BB and fitness lifters here than PL.

Nope. If you do a search for DeezNuts(spelled like that) then look for his journal. It will list theweights he uses, and if you PM him, I am sure he would be happy to help you out

Stud - I replied to your PM. I'm only 17 and competed in the 114's, but am currently training to compete in the 123's. Send me those maxes and all get back to you. Also, what is your current bodyfat %? It might be possible to drop weight classes if you're a little overweight. The higher weight class you go upto, the tougher the weights are going to be. The winner of this years THSPA (Texas High School Powerlifthing Association) Championship in the 165's for 5A had a total of 1,420. This is REALLY strong for this weight class so I wouldn't give up hope yet I'll try to pull you up some real numbers.

I didn't get here naturally, my genetics dont dictate any huge quick natural gains. If you compete in the big number classes you will go up against either OPEN competitors (drug users) or natural guys who are cheating the system by running quick clearing drugs.

You are always going to be up against cheaters, I'd say at least half dont follow the rules just as a guess.

I second that. Steroid use is common at events like these. Most take them during the offseason so they have time to clear out. Please note that steroid use at this age has been proven to be extremely bad for you, and i'm sure those who are winning medals now will live to regret using gear at such a young age. And Stud, you can ALWAYS compete. You don't have to win, simply competing in powerlifting is fun enough.

Agreed! Compete with yourself and have fun. They can easily run suspension two weeks out and kill, halo, all that stuff will be around. They will likely test the winners but most of the time nobody else will get tested, too expensive.

2 of my friends are really into powerlifting... but they are both in the 198 weight class.... one holds the total weight record and deadlift and squat i blieve .. and his total weight was like 1430 so that above post is crazy with such a light weight--he must be a freak... the other one holds the bench record with i think 380...
for NJ
their friend, not really mine is in the 165 class and i thinks holds (maybe held) the national record with 450...

just some random info

jadakris31, searching Google I didn't find much difference in the 132 and up class until guys were in the 200s. I have to imagine they are really short and obviously gifted and assisted (that rhymes ).

But yeah, I remember the basic stats for a 132 pounder because thats about as strong as I am, deadlift and bench are about the same.

Hell yea man. There's no feeling like slapping yourself in the face with a chalky hand as the crowd cheers you on while you glare at the bar as if it's that kid that used to beat you up on the play ground. It's exilirating to put all you have into one single lift. There's no teams. No other players. Just you and your only enemy - the iron stacked on the sides of the bar.
