how do you when you are done in the gym?

Some guys go in the gym and workout with the right RM, # of reps, sets etc only to come out 'blasted' 'f.....' etc but another group do exactly the same routine and come out smiling as if they had not done much. It would seem the first group had overdone it - maybe they should have done less .. and the other group could have done more.

If routines affect us differently maybe someone could tell me how I will know when I have done enough.

Thanks.

Nobody wants their meat over or underdone, do they?

You have to understand that most people think that pain, burn, soreness is productive.
I usually come out smiling.

I always feel like i have had a great workout when my body feels like I have been run over by a truck. I mean like when I do my legs, i have trouble walking almost. When i do biceps i have trouble lifting my Protein shake. Not Real pain, but you know you have pushed yourself hard.

Then i listen to great music, have shower and then head off to work normally!

IMO...that only comes from training experience. while I do use my training log as a guide for what poundages to use on working sets I also train instictively. If I am supposed to do 3 sets of an exercise and feel that I have sufficiently worked that muscle after 2 sets I stop and go to the next exercise. Conversely, sometimes I do more than I have planned. Or if I am scheduled to do one exercise and it just doesn't "feel" right that day I'll stop and do another...

Thanks for the info.

Maybe I will have to do more reps of squats as I never get a 'buzz' in the quads from that exercise -- I only get out if breath.

That's why I am interested in EDT and ICE concepts instead of just sticking to a 'fixed' routine.

I agree. You have to learn your body's limits before you can determine if you're surpassing them.
