Been lifting (what I call "seriously") for 6 years, after a heart attack at age 41. Drs orders to "get in shape or die!". Decided I needed to drop 50 lbs of fat. I built a home gym, hired a trainer, and called several of my old weightlifting friends from college as workout partners. I workout 3 days a week, 3 day split (chest/tris, back/bis, legs/abs).
I'm now 47, 5'9" at 215#, 17% bf, 18" arms, and finally got 300# on the bench this spring. I run 3 miles 4x a week, watch my nutrition very carefully. Can honestly say I'm in the best shape of my life.
Goals are to get bf in low teens this year, maybe see the 6 pack I've been really working on.
Bodybuilding principles have really helped my life, to stay focused, and to realize that each small goal attained keeps you on track for the larger overall goals.
Would be interested in corresponding with other guys my age.
