Well it does.......

I have been doin it for some time now and its really paying off. I have just recently modified it to suit me better thanks to Jodi but figured I would show you all some progress pics. I started tanning so I wanted to see if my color had changed compared to a few months ago and it got a little better. These are just some goofing around pictures.

Next week I will take some new ones after I check my BF%. I am currently 170lbs @ 5'6". Since my last testing I have lost 3lbs and gained in strength and size so I'm guess something is going rite here. Even if I'm not losing as much fat as I should, 3lbs in a month, I am enjoying my added size and strength.

Be nice I'm still new to all this so there are some troubled spots on my body yet but they will take some time to fix . All comments welcome good and bad.

Excellent work

3lbs is nothing to shake a stick at especially when you've gained size.

Posted by: aztecwolf

have you been using the carb cycle only on your cut deadbolt?

Yes I am only using it to cut as for right now, I will start bulking with it in a few months. I have been cutting since February and in total I am down about 10lbs. I thought it would go faster but its taking its time, I dont mind to much though b/c I love this cycle. I am just happy its working a little for me.

Was Me It no longer is me, I gave that pudgy little bastard the boot 3 years ago and never looked back heh.

Thanks everyone I owe it all to everyone here at IM for the help and skills I've gotten to achieve my goals. Can't wait for my BF testing next week.

i stand corrected...it was you! hats off for staying so dedicated.

Posted by: aztecwolf

yeah good job dbolt, its always nice to keep photos like that around reminding you of where you came from and where you have gotten too. Maybe on days when you just don't feel pumped to go to the gym or need some extra motivation, you take a look at the old photo and say i am not that person anymore and go for it

and as for carn cycling i was hoping it would be a carne cycling diet. Man would that be great

Posted by: 5'9'

yeah do you mean carb cycling?

Posted by: Akateros

"Carn cycling" is when you eat chicken one day, beef the next, maybe venison the day after...

to my deep regret, this method of carb cycling does not "work" for me, at least not as written.

Posted by: Twin Peak

Akateros -- details please. Doesn't work in what way?

Posted by: Akateros

Can't do anything like "eat carbs till satisfied" and remain in caloric deficit. Maybe I'm a piggy, maybe it works for large men, but I am a small person.

Hypoglycemic issues mean I'm pretty much tied to the six-meal plan. Just for fun, I thought I would try it "as written" for a couple cycles.

Well, eating carbs "till satisfied" in four meals meant I came out somewhere a bit over four times bodyweight in grams. That was on top of fruit and protein. And we're talking hefty carbs here for the most part: barley, Fiber One, steel-cut oats.

Eating carbs not-quite-till-satisfied-but-let's-just-stop-now-because-I've-got-a-deadline-to-make, I was still at a goodly three times bodyweight in grams. Still nothing like caloric deficit happening here, may I say.

Of course, unofficial word is that "self-limitation" will have you coming out at 2 or maybe 2.5 times bodyweight in grams on a high-carb day. Well, let's do a little math here. Six-meal plan, that means roughly 50g carbs per four meals on a high-carb day. (A bit more, but that leaves room for an extra bite of Fiber One.)

But hold off a minute -- on the low-carb day, on each of three meals, I am getting approximately 35 grams of carbs. 15 grams difference... which is to say, a bit over a tablespoon of steel-cuts... a "medium" instead of "very small" sweet potato... one more slice of Ezekiel bread. Now, I don't know about you, but I am not breaking out the "Carb Par-Tay!" t-shirt for three more pieces of oven-fried sweet potato or a measly extra piece of toast!

Not that, you know, with these adjustments, it necessarily won't work, but it is not any more an easy-peasy approach to cutting than any other, nor am I putting away the digital scale at any time.

Ah, so when you say "I didn't work" that is not exactly true. You are assuming, correct? I mean, you didn't try it for a few weeks with no progress, did you?

If not, I think you should give it a try. If yes, then all you really need to do, is adjust the cycle. For example, typically Jodi will do a 4-day cycle: High, No, Low, No. This works well for her; whilest for most, weight loss would be too rapid.

My point is, if you are just theorizing, you need to try it.

Also, you are making some mistakes about the program. For example, on low Carb days, you are only eating carbs for 3 meals, so that makes a difference over 4 meals.

Also, unless I am reading you wrong, you seem to be under the misimpression that you are supposed to be in a caloric deficit every day. You are not. That is the whole point. The deficit is a weekly one.

Posted by: Monolith

Uhh... Akateros, how much do you weigh?

Maybe im misreading, but unless you weigh 100lbs, the amount of carbs youre listing seems waaaay low. You're thinking 2x your bodyweight in carbs for the high day comes out to 4 meals of 50g carbs?? And 3 meals of 35g carbs on the low day (105g total)??

Posted by: Akateros

I tried it for two weeks, and made progress -- visible and measurable progress -- in the wrong direction. I've got a very small suit to wear on July 17, so no time to frig around, here. And my comparison of LC/HC days is based on three carb meals on Low days, as you'll see if you check it out.

I do realise that I'm supposed to be in a weekly, not daily deficit. And I most emphatically was not (I tracked my excesses in DietPower).

I did in fact read Jodi's journal from last year, and contemplated the H/N/L/N pattern. I might run some hypothetical test cases based on that and see where it gets me. (With the aforementioned deadline, I really can't afford to do immediate realtime testing at this time! )

However, I think this would rock as a lean bulking program, post-comp.

Posted by: Twin Peak

Interesting.

Another possible tweak is to reduce the number of carb meals each day -- three moderate carb meals on low carb and 3 heavy on High Carb.

Posted by: Akateros

Sorry, TP. There's got to be one of us in every crowd, doesn't there?

And yes, Monolith, you are not delusional, and your deduction is correct.

Ahhh... well thats interesting then. Perhaps theres an "optimal bodyweight range" for carb cycling. I know the diet didnt seem to work quite as well for me when i was 15lbs heavier, i almost couldnt eat enough carbs for my bodyweight (hell, i still have trouble sometimes). Maybe the problem with lighter people is that they just eat too many carbs. That is to say, perhaps "carb satiety" isnt linear with bodyweight?

Posted by: LAM

On the high carb days I would definetly use 100 mg of r-ALA for every 100 grams of carbs consumed.

Probably less to do with bodyweight (directly) than with exponents and bulk. There's a lot less difference between a 100g pile o' carby goodness and a 200g one, than a 200g one and a 400g one.

I actually think Jodi's plan might be a good choice for me, since I suspect we are fighting a similar genetic inclination to the cozy European tradition of being as round as we are tall. (And a similar kapacity for kartoffeln konsumption, perhaps.)
