i've stayed away from sushi for a long time, but i had it this weekend and i forgot how much i love it. is it going to throw a cutting diet off if i had it once a week? its too bad they don't make the sushi rolls with brown rice. that sodium in the soy sauce isn't so great either, but i just love sushi

Posted by: Vieope

IMO Sushi is fine. I donīt like it though.

Posted by: Var

I love Sushi, too!!! I eat it all the time. The white rice is definitely not ideal, so I consider it my cheat meal if I'm cutting. As far as the soy sauce, you can buy low sodium and bring it with you.

I love sushi too.... If you ask them they will bring you low sodium soy sauce..

Posted by: Vieope

Donīt worry about the white rice, nobody can explain to me why it is no good. Eat it, it is fine.

Posted by: Var

No one can explain to you why white rice is bad?

Posted by: Vieope

Yes

I don't think people would say it is "no good" personally I love the taste...but it is probably not what he should be eating a lot of if he is trying to cut fat.. As Var said in a previous post it would probably be fine for a cheat meal.

Thats weird. Brown rice is a better source of riboflavin, folate, iron and magnesium and has 3 times the fiber of white. Many nutrients are stripped from white rice in processing.

Posted by: Var

Also, I believe I read that white has more effect on insulin, but I'm not totally sure about that one.

Posted by: Vieope

Water doesnīt have nutrients as well.

That is probably true but if you donīt eat that much it is not a problem, like in sushi.

Posted by: Var

Some of us get pretty serious about cutting...and diet in general..and would see it as a problem.

Also, I can eat A LOT of sushi, so I consume a lot of white rice in a sitting.

There is something called insulin index, do you know any website about it?
I donīt know how you can like sushi.

Posted by: rockcrest

Posted by: rockcrest

Last week I went to a place on Wickenden St in Prov. Cant remember the name. It was amazing! I dont really eat rolls. I LOVE straight up raw fish.

Posted by: rockcrest

i'm just warming up to the raw fish now...maybe even more so now if i have to avoid my white rice stuffed rolls.

Posted by: Var

I think theres just as much with the fish. Unless you get Sashimi (sp?) which doesnt have any rice at all.
I say just eat it and enjoy. I think the nutritional benefits of raw fish far outweigh the issues with white rice.

Posted by: Spitfire

Sticky rice is what is used for makin sushi, Make it for yourself with brown rice, I think its just vinegar that makes it sticky. I think brown rice and tuna sushi would be mad good. And making sushi is alot of fun to do with a girfriend or something.

Posted by: rockcrest

thats what i am saying i'm going to switch too. the raw slabs of dead fish. what i got over the weekend was a combo of both. some rolls and some fish chunks.

Posted by: Var

I like the raw fish over sticky rice! Good stuff!

Spitfire: Great idea! My gf actually bought me a sushi cookbook so we could do just that.

Posted by: Spitfire

Or mabey like some raw tuna the size of a golf ball and a little bit of rice rapped up in some seaweed
