hey guys,

I see that loads of people here swear by grilled meat based meals as it's low in fat. Ijust can't stand it, find it too bland even with spices. You see I live in asia and the food here is sooo yummy!

What I try to do most of the days is take a pile of rice dish everything on top to let the fattening sauce draing, then just eat the meat and veggies form the top.

Do you guys reckon even so I still might be taking loads of unnecessary fat in, and anyone out there who "knows" asian food well to recommend certain asian dishes that are on a healthier side?

Yan good discipline! I appreciate my food way too much! And the thing is, if I am not happy with the taste, I am hungry in less than hour again, regardles of the portion I might have eaten for the previous meal....

what does your current diet look like? if you posted what you do eat someone would be able to tell you what you can keep and what needs to go.

Well...living in asia I must say that we usually eat white rice, the different curries, chicken, beef, mutton, chappatis, bread etc. etc.

Dalila, Tyrone_40, where in Asia do you live?

I live in Asia as well, in Indonesia to be exact. I have a similar problem with diets since the common foods here seems not to agree with what is usually prescribed for bodybuilding. I am very much interested to know how you deal with this issue.

mmm... asian food.. i used to eat thai and indian food several times a week. i can't eat any of it now.. it's all bad. occasionally i'll get a chicken curry dish, order the curry extra hot, scoop out just the chicken and veggies and mix it around with the rice to clean it up a bit, and then just eat the chicken and veggies... damn, what the hell are we doing to ourselves.

thai food is where it's at

I have lived in Thailand, and now lived in Vietnam.

PM me if you want to discuss South East Asian food.

There are always simple carbohydrates (RICE & NOODLES) thrown in our faces.

I order lots of delicious and well-balanced food and request "no rice."

One concern is the oils that the vegetables are cooked in. I assume they are bad, as this health concern is not followed by everyone, and probably most people here.

I currently get 1 to 1.5 grams or protein per lb. (with help from some protein supplements).

Eating boiled, steamed, and grilled food that is lean is not difficult once you find the places that provide. Another option is cooking at home.

i have a question, towards asian food.

does white rice prevent you from getting those abs?

Posted by: tyrone_40

Yes I too eat a lot of white rice ... in fact its our staple food here in Asia. Does white rice give u a bloated gut?????

Josh I live in Pakistan and as mentioned by Josh its so difficult to get the proper diet here Thank goodness for protein supplements. Besides have lots a milk and eggs and chicken grilled but rice and curry or chappatis have to be there.

I'm Indian and I usually eat chicken curry using lean chicken breasts. I just put a couple of them in a pot, mix in the ingredients and eat it- tastes great and is spicey. I do include a small portion of rice too cause it goes real good with the curry I stopped putting yogurt on it though entirely

i think rice is a great food when you eat with other dishes, like chicken or beef dishes, and you’re hook into your training, and don’t eat too much fat, you should still get your abs.

Posted by: Premo55

Maybe I'm weird, but I love the taste of clean food.
I actually like the taste of plain boiled chicken breast with no sauce whatsoever. Same goes for grilled round steaks and pork tenderloin. Also, it must be said that oatmeal is my favourite food of all time.

Peace.

Man. . . .where do I start? Being filipino, I grew up eating white rice everyday, but now that i started lifting I just had to suck it up and take white rice out of my diet. I just dont think asian food fits a BB's diet. We use too much salts and spices, but if you guys do find asian food that will fit our diets. . . .pass on the recipes!!!

Posted by: tyrone_40

...............but whats wrong with white rice.........I haven't seen brown rice out here and I dont think its available here :-s

It depends how much you eat more than anything else IMO.

Posted by: tyrone_40

I eat about a 2 cups maybe once a day or every two/three days

Wow, I thought I was the only one in this predicament!

Anyway, I live in Malaysia, which is a real melting pot of asia in every sense, inlcuding food. I can basically get any asian food here!

I try to stay away from curries, kormas , rendangs and deep fried food as it's full of coconut milk ( high fat) and ghee ( animal fat) (apology to the ones who don't understand but I don't know the english names, maybe these dishes don't even have them..)

Suggestion - at home I make them fat free and use yogurt instead of coconut milk, and eat with brown rice or chapaties, which are made of whole meal flour. Not as good, but not bad tasting either...

I eat a lot chinese food, steamed when I can find it, and if it's cooked in chili sauce ( which always has tons of sugar) or with soya sauce ( sodium), like I said I mix it with rice, and drain the fattening sauce that way. Not ideal, but....

Also long ago an asian friend suggested I waited 30 min after a meal with rice, and only then drink water, otherwse I bloat unbelievably. When I do it this way, I don't bloat.

Hi guys, I also live in Asia, Taiwan, when eating out here is not so easy to keep a clean diet, except the steamed foods., way too many sauces and fried stuff. The good thing is the great variaty of vegetables and fruits available in the wet markets. IMO, the best solution for me is to cook most of the meals at home and bring them to my office.

hey JoLin, lucky you! I don't have the time to cook more than once week.... tried cooking large portions and freezing, but soon got sick of eating the same food....

Dalila, i can understand your problem. When I eat out I also like to drink tons of tea-- oolong, green, whatever... it makes me feel less guilty
I traveled many places in Asia, not yet to Malaysia! Heard it is a great place!

yeah, it is, I love it, especially because I lost 20kgs here!
But since I've hit 20-20.5% body fat a year ago, it's not moving anymore at all, sigh... I am thinking it might be the local fruits, they are full of sugar after all... but then again, can't get berries and stuff here, just plain ol' oranges, grapefruit, apples and pears...

mangos or apples, mangos or apples..mmmmm now you know my dilemma!!

Posted by: dalila

OK lets not go into why I like it when it stinks the way it does!

My question is, since all resources I have access to give me nutritional value for durian per grams of flesh ONLY, how do I figure how much say 1kg of fruit where seeds are huge and heavy, has of flesh only?

Any ideas? No cant remove the flesh and weigh it, since it "melts' its buttery kind of fruit!

Here is my question. If white rice is so bad for you, then why are the majority of Asian people I see lean? I don’t think that anyone could argue that Asian people for the most part are not obese. And even though they may not be huge in stature, I would say that many are muscular.

I dunno how it is in the other Asian countries Diak, but whenever I visitfamily in India you should see how much rice everyone eats. Half the plate is nothing but rice yet they're all in very good shape- I think it comes from the lifestyle though, they're always moving around doing something

If someone could give me some insight on this recipe I'd appreciate it. I eat lots of chicken curry and I beleive it's not bad but well you be the judge:

-Lean Chicken Breasts (whole or chopped)
-Ginger
-Onions
-Garlic
-Spices (paprika, hot chili powder, others I can't remember right now)
-Mustard seeds
-Olive oil

Posted by: dalila

hi pooloo, it doesn't look bad at all to me, but how can it be called curry without either coconut milk or yogurt, or curry powder ? basically curry -goooooood, coconut milk-baaaaad.

Diak asian people are vastly different in their built depending on individual countries...for example japanese are usually lean, so are chinese; malaysians, indonesians, etc are generally plump.... white rice here is always eaten with very heavy, oily food with lots of gravy that is then mixed with white rice....when combined, it's a killer!

Also because asians are so dependant on rice and noodles ( simple carbs) every 6th person on average, get diabetes in early 30ies.... frightening!

Well instead of a store powder I use something my mom makes, her own blend of God knows what hehe. Then we just use water for consistency
