IM Forums Sometimes Feel Sluggish?

Is there any reason for this? Is it because of how many people we have on the site? It seems that sometimes the pages don't load right away, etc.

Posted by: PreMier

I have this problem too.. And im on T-1. I think its the server sometimes.

Posted by: Var

Same here. I agree that its probably the server. I'm on a T-1 and sometimes it feels like 56K when on IM. I run into this problem on some other sites, too. It passes.

Posted by: Prince

it's more likely the network that my server resides on.

Posted by: Randy

What does this mean Prince?
Is there anything you're planning to do to fix this issue in the near future... I know your a busy man and all.

It is getting so in many cases I wait over 60 seconds just for a message to post. Or over 60 seconds to pull up the contents of a thread That is not good

I'm not a server expert, but could it be that the forum is just so bogged down with to many damn messages. Maybe if you can archive off half of them and run server maintainance. I'm sure you run defrag frequently. But I'm sure there are other maintainance techniques that can drastically improve the performance.

I have to agree here. PM's especially will sit at the reloading screen for a while before they finally reload. I am not sure what the problem is, but it can get frustrating at times.

Posted by: Var

Seems better since he rebooted the server, doesnt it?

Posted by: Randy

I hope so Var , it was lagging big time. I literally clicked on link and had to walk away and come back before it would load. That is bad

Posted by: Randy

I don't know if all these whoring links help matters either.. They go on for days. Maybe going in and deleting those would help out a lot.

Maybe if each moderator had the job of focusing on a certain part, it could get done with minimal pain and maximum gain

But again, I don't know all the tricks for maximizing performance on a forum server. Can probably just search the net though and get all kinds of tips.

Or maybe I should just shut up eyyyyyyy Prince
It does seem to be working better now though.

I think you guys bitch too much.

Posted by: Randy

Who's bitchin....

This is a suggestion box isn't it?
Don't blame us PreMier if your free rubbers had holes in them

And the rebooting server didn't seem to help. I'm still connecting to links slow like a dog. I even get an error "server not found" periodically when trying to hit a link. I'm definately not here to bitch, just to make the host "Prince" aware as a prominent user should. When you wait 60 seconds and frequently get "Server not found" messages a flag should go up.

So Premier this is for you

if that is the case then you have ISP issues.

Yeah that is certainly a possibility. Could be having delays through one of the routes over to your server. I just thought I would report it since I have heard others complaining of it recently as well.

Well similar things that Randy is describing do happen to me as well. And I use IM from a variety of different computers, all with cable model connection. And on all of the computers it just seems a tad sluggish, that's all. I am just comparing it to other VBulletin forums, of course.

Have you thought of upgrading to the new version of VBulletin? It seems that those forums who have made the change are getting a much higher speed.

Posted by: Randy

Monstar...

Yes, being the computer guy that I am and the wide range of internet work that I do I am pretty confident it is not my ISP, but knowing how busy Prince is I didn't want to be a pest. I just wanted to make the suggestion and thought this was the best place to do it .

Also I didn't post this message till I heard from at least half a dozen others using different ISP's with the same problem as I am having. Besides my ISP is Comcast and they are back behind some pretty big dollars. I pay quite a bit per month, but one good thing I can say I rarely have any issues with them. Not to say that I can't, but doesn't happen very often. It's not like some of these Fly by night low budget ISP's. And I'm using cable too.

It seems a bit faster today, but there are lots of things that can affect performance...

Posted by: Randy

Thanks for running the extended maintainance on the server Prince.
But what happened to the formating (everything is big now)
I know...I'm a pain in the ass . I really am not trying to be though.

Posted by: Saturday Fever

If the site uses MySQL as its backend, I'd blame MySQL. It's evil.

Posted by: Randy

It does use mysql... He's using VBulletin 3.0.1 forum software.
