Hello. I've been haunting these forums a week or two now. I've noticed a few of here have hiatal hernias. I was wondering, how were your's diagnosed?

Here's why ask:
I had an upper gi series (barium swallow) performed in march in response to chest pain. It showed no abnormalities. ....just "slight reflux". Which, at the time, I didn't really have much heartburn. The months that followed it seems I've developed some constipation (it seems to be ok now). But there were some times I had some severely strenuous sessions trying to pass a stool. It was a month or so ago I was straining and I felt a strange sensation in my upper abdomen. The days and weeks that followed I've suffered from terrible burning in the upper chest and throat. I've also developed some abdominal discomfort. Maybe, the straining strained some of my ab muscles. I don't know I've taken rantidine (generic zantac) when the burning's been real bad. There was week or two where I couldn't sleep at all.

I visited my Dr. again, convinced I'd developed a hiatal hernia (via the straining). I needed ( and still do) to know why I've had this terrible onset of pain. He ordered another upper gi. The results left on my machine stated: "everything's fine". I've some nexium but don't really want to take it. I'm convinced that this pain is from the straining. However, I can find very little information to support this.

He's gave me some nexium. But, I don't really want to take it. I just want to know if something's happened to my body. Or, if I'm simply imagining this. Or, at the very least dwelling on it too much.

I haven't been lifting much. For fear that I may worsen my condition. In fact, this is my first week I've lifted since, my best guess, April.

Sorry for the long, 1st, post.

Thanks for reading.
