I heard this conspiracy theory, from a Red Sox fan, on a sports talk show.
Clemens intentionally lost the game as part of a grand plan to go out on top, forever adored by Red Sox nation. 1. Clemens gives up a homer to soon-to-be teammate Ramirez. 2. Clemens gives up a homer to former Yankee Soriano, showing everyone that the Yankees made a bad trade. 3. Clemens convinces Randy Johnson that New York is a great place to play. 4. Johnson signs with the Yankees. 5. Boston, not apt to stand still while the Yankess bolster their roster, say that they are still trying to improve their staff. 6. Clemens makes it known that since the Astros stink, he would not be opposed to a trade back to the team he started with. 7. Boston trades for Clemens. 8. The Red Sox make the playoffs and defeat the Yankees in the ALCS. 9. Game 7 of the World Series, at Fenway park due to the American winning the All-Star game, Clemens on the mound, pitching the Sox to their first World Series since 1918. Sox win. Would Clemens be the biggest sports hero in New England or what? |
