Do you all find low-fat or low-carb diets to be easier? i know low-carb diets take away most sweets...low-fat just takes away fat, but still leaves the sweets. On a low-fat diet u can use nutri grain bars, oatmeal, and all that but u can still consume sugar...thats why im looking into the subway diet. In the morning ill eat a bowl of cinnamon roll oatmeal, then for lunch a Sub, for dinner a sub. I DONT workout for bodybuilding, i workout for general fitness. I go in the gym every other day just to workout every muscle, im usually done in 25 minutes, i cant get it in me to stay longer, lol. I also have workout videos at home and am doing abdominal videos everyday, or every other day for about 20 minutes a time, hoping it can flatten my belly. Sorry to get off track, but i know people say low-fat is hard for working out-so i was just stating that im not bodybuilding. So low-fat or low-carb easier???

I would say low carb is better for someone trying to retain muscle. But neither are optimal. If your serious, then make up a real diet plan, consisting of whole grains, unprocessed proteins, and fibrous veggies. No fad diet will change your life style enough to stay in shape for a long time. Most anyone who does these "fad" diets just gains weight right back or even more. You need to be serious if you want serious results

Well neither are easy. Personally I like the low-carb (Atkins) but everyone is different. My advice to you seeing how you "workout for general fitness" would be forget the low carb/low fat diets and stick to a healthy well rounded diet.

I well balanced diet will make you feel better and in turn you are more likely to stick to your weight loss/training goals.

Good luck.

there is absolultey no reason to go on a low fat diet. eating fat doesn't make you fat. having a caloric excess and a sedentary lifestyle make you fat...

I agree with you totally. Altough It is hard for some people to understand that certain fats should be avoided while others like EFA's should sometimes be supplemented into ones diet.

It makes me laugh when I see someone who lives off twinkies and lives the couch potatoe lifestyle think they can magically drop the pounds by eliminating fats or carbs. Eat well and excercise and you will drop the pounds.

The low-fat diet you describe is the low-fat diet that's led to all the recent headlines to the effect of "Low-Fat Diets Are Crap!"

Studies on low-fat diets, I regret to inform you, were done on things like the Ornish plan (which minimizes if not eliminates sugar, and emphasises whole grains and vegetables) and traditional diets such as Asian, in which, again, Nutri-Grain bars do not feature prominently.

And, like LAM says, no arrangement of macros is going to help you if you eat more than you burn. Which is damn easy with sugary instant oatmeal and other "low-fat" crap. Nor is "lunch: a sub, dinner: a sub" a real top-flight choice either, whatever Jared or Jackoff or whatever his name is tells you on those ads for which he gets paid a stupid amount of cash.

Read the stickies. I know you're not a bodybuilder, but they will help you. Eat real food: whole grains where you can, healthy proteins that aren't too high in sodium or additives, plenty of vegetables. Fresh raw fruit if you want sweets; a lot of people round here start backing off and pulling out the vampire crosses when you mention fruit, but seriously, as someone posted just the other day, "whoever heard of someone who got fat from eating fruit?" and it's loaded with vitamins, fibre and anti-oxidants.

That's "healthy," that's balanced and sustainable. Rule of thumb: the more things you are eating from boxes with more than one ingredient listed on the label, the less healthy your diet probably is.
