Cheap and you want to gain weight. Nuts are pretty calorically dense.

almonds, wheat thins, etc.

how careful should i be with the sodium? wheat thins, nuts all contain alot of sodium, i know there is unsalted version of most everything but they get kind of bland after a while.

Hey sabre81, As part of an overall healthy diet, we shouldn't consume anymore than 2,400mg of sodium a day. That equals about 6 grams of salt.

For the last couple of months I have been snaking on a trail mix that has peanuts, almonds, thompson raisins, sunflower seeds, papaya and pineapple. I buy it at Wal-mart in kilo bags.

It is very cheap and nutrient/calorie dense so it should be just what you are looking for.

I bought 5 lbs of Honey for >$9. Just tip and squeeze! I concur with Madden Player, too.

I dont know if it's low enough for you, but I mix salted and unsalted nuts together... The salted are too damn salty, and unsulted just dont do it (tastewise). Worth a shot, and it's well within budget.

I like to eat a mix of roasted peas, soy nuts, and whole wheat crackers.

check the latest threads on sodium and water retention... those levels are for your everyday person, not athletes or people in training(ie very active).

raw or dry roasted nuts are cheap, how about buying Milk Powder to add to your shakes or milk itself or just make the milk? its cheap.
oatmeal/brown rice in bulk quantities are dirt cheap.
tuna, light, on sale is under $1/can.
eggs in bulk. cheap.
peanut butter.
fruit.

I always keep a bag of pistachios in my office at work and I grab probably two-three handfuls a day. It's also how I get my fats in, since I am always slacking there.
