I recently got my BF tested by a personal trainer at my gym and it turns out that I have 5% BF. He used an electronic pair of calipers and pinched 4 places: Bicep, Tricep, upper back, and lower abs, so Im not sure how accuracte it is. But my question is, is this too low of a BF and should I go grab a couple of big macs? :P BTW, Im 5' 10 about 130 lbs and 19 years old, if it matters..

You are 5'10" and 130 pounds......................
EAT BOY EAT! AND WHEN YOUR FULL..............EAT MORE!

130 lbs. at 5%, yeah it is too low, i was probably at the level at 142 lbs. (5'11") back in December, i'm about to hit 170 lbs. with a higher fat level but from my pics i'm not gaining to much fat.
What is your diet and workout regimen like?

there is nothing wrong with having 5% body fat if that is what you have natuarally and are not starving youself. elite sprinters stay in the 5-7% range almost the entire life of their careers, with no adverse health effects.

but at 5'10 with 123 lbs of LBM there can't be much to you...if you are looking to gain some muscle you need to eat your ass off and sit on the couch when you are not in the gym...

I don't know if Im an ecto, I only get in around 2300 calories a day and I do a lot of exercise, about 2 hours a day, 6 days a week. I was about 20 pounds overweight at one time (a year ago) but that was from eating about 10, maybe more times a day of high fat foods (McDonalds 2-3 times a week, #2 Supersized with lemonade) and doing nothing but sitting on my ass watching TV and playing video games. Even an ecto could get a little fat with eating a lot and doing nothing, right?

I'm deff. not an ectomorph. You guys are making me jealous.

Damn, I'm 5'10" 165 and I think I look like a scarecrow. Read the stickies on bulking. Of course you're asking this on a board where everyone wants as much muscle as possible.

what are you doing for 2 hours a day 6 days a week ?

Posted by: TGame

It consists of both weight lifting and cardio. About an hour each.

Posted by: P-funk

shit!!! no more cardio man. you are to thin to be doing that much cardio. total overkill.

Your personal trainer should tell you to spend less time doing cardio and more time eating carbs, protein, and EFA. Why all the cardio? Are you trying to get to 4% bf or just burn off all the muscle you are working so hard to put on?

Myself. I was weighing 170, and around 150 is good for my height and I had a gut from all the fattening food and being a lazy ass and wanted to lose it. Well I guess I lost it and then some.

I don't know why I do all the cardio, Sadly, I guess Im kinda become anorexic (sp?) I guess it's because I don't really have anything else to do during the day. Im currently looking for a job to keep me busy, but no luck so far.

Could it be possible that I am an ecto and don't know it? I mean, my dad and sister have high metabolisms, but my mom doesn't. And Im sure and ecto can gain about 20 pounds from eating like I said, 10 times a day of all high fat/sugar foods and sitting on their ass all day, right? BTW this was over a period of about 2 - 3 years..

Peace.

HEY! Cut me some slack. i'm a touch over 5'10" and currently sitting at 162

Posted by: aztecwolf

i'm 5'11" 168 lbs. and i need to put on a lot more weight, i would like to get up to about 185 lbs at roughly 8-9%
5'10" 170 lbs is far from overweight, if you are using government guidelines for weight per height it does not take into account muscle to fat ratio, only total weight, so someone like LAM who's a beast woould be way overweight by those standards, but pretty much everyone on this board would love to be his size

Posted by: TGame

I think most of it was fat, maybe some muscle.. kinda hard to gain muscle from sitting on your ass. But anywho.. my niece's 2nd birthday party is coming up on Saturday, maybe I can gain a little weight, doubtful considering it's just one day... but there'll be cake!!

Yea bud cut the cardio and eat like a mofo. I am 5'6" 177lbs and I am still small. I am looking to put on another 25lbs or so.

And actecwolf has a good point. By the gov't standards I'm sure I'm a fat F**ker and here I'm just stocky, but in my eyes I am way small. I know I'm no cut up monster yet but hell 130lbs @ 5%bf is a lil to low.

Posted by: TGame

Cut the cardio out completely or just lower the amount of time? and about how many calories should I be consuming daily. The trainer suggest around 3000, is that a good starting point for my size?

Posted by: DeadBolt

Yes cut the cardio completly, no need to do it really unless you are training for endurance.

As for cal, don't jump from one extreme to another, gradually add the cals every week. You are in need of some serious gains though, but make the foods good foods. Its easy to take in a ton of cals with crap food such as burger king and junk like that. As for cal range if you are not gaining any weight at 2300 I would say 3000 wont be very hard to get in just gradually add em in and if gains still dont occur keep adding cals until they do.

Posted by: TGame

I was planning on adding slowly, about 150-200 cals a week until I see a change. Thanks to all of you that helped, I really appreciate it
