Jgirl, I think there is a lot of different opinions as to wheather a very low carb diet is good or bad... my boyfriend lost 12kgs in 6 weeks on it ( admitedly we didn't check how much of it was water and how much was the fat loss), and his cholesterol and sugar levels dropped really a lot. But the thing is I sincerely believe that it's a nutritional plan you can stick with for very long. No one I knew could stay on it for more than a year, and the moment they started eating carbs again they piled on the lost kilos very fast... Your dad would be better off substituting empty carbs ( sugar, white flour etc..) with complex carbs - whole wheat flour, brown rice, oats, sweet potato,etc... and of course watch the total caloric intake. |
