White vs Brown rice

I was cooking up some rice this morning, and was thinking...

White rice is just processed brown rice, correct? It's had the husk removed, and been milled etc to remove the fibrous (brown) coating. So, couldnt you just eat white rice with a comparable amount of supplemental fiber? i.e. a few spoonfulls of psyllium husk?

Obviously it wouldnt be as nutritious as the brown rice (lacking iron, niacin, etc), but the GI would be the same, right?

I read somewhere GI difference is only about 3 points.

The GI's of various white and brown rice types can vary significantly. Check out the GI database on glycemicindex.com for more info.

I suppose minus the nutrients, the GI would be comparable. But it also depends WHAT your eating with either sorts of the rice. The GI index is measured when the carb is eaten alone, so mix protein/fats/additional fiber with it will effect that rating as well.

besides.. white rice has no taste... bastami or wild is much more tasty

but our saying white rice is ok to eat instead of brown rice?

define "ok"

I would say the difference is minimal. So we are saying oats and sweet potato are better sources for low GI carb sources?

Just eat your rice with some fat and protein and don't wory about it. I eat brown rice because I like the taste better than white rice. I have never had batsami rice though.

Because it is stripped of its nutrients white rice is garbage. The gi may be close but you have to take the glycemic load into consideration too and the glycemic load is very different from the glycemic index. Brown rice is much better for you on all counts.

So brown rice it is.

Whats the diff between GI and GL? I thought you got GL by multiplying the GI by the amount of carbs.
