what is the best supliment for a 16 or 17 year old kid? I go to the gym often or at least i have been but am in a slump because i lack motivation to do it right now. but i belong to balies and i try to get there as much as i can but it is hard because i work a lot. but if there is somehting that would give me the energy that i need to do it it would help a lot. By the way i am 5'10'' tall and 160. i am looking to put on some muscle so i can look good and hang out with my boys that play football and not be looked at as the "little guy."

-thanks for the help

Supplement..repeat with me s-u-p-p-l-e-m-e-n-t..

You can take pretty much any of them, creatine, vitamines, whey, glutamine are good ones to start. Donīt consider PH though.

start with whey protein

Posted by: Du

First and foremost, a multivitamin. Then I would say whey protein, then creatine. Next, glutamine. However, don't mix the creatine and glutamine, you'll waste it. The creatine and whey mixed together in a shake works well, especially for beginners.

I would recommend finding motivation and getting in there before supplementing though, its pointless to supplement if you don't get in to lift.

I hope this helps a little.

Creatine and glutamine no good together? Are you sure?

Posted by: PreMier

Glutamine is no good by itself! LOL

Also there is a thread on this exact topic http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/sh...ght=supplement

From what I've read, they compete for absorbtion. To be scientific about it, the two of them depend on the same substrate carriers and co-transporters. Meaning, if you take them both at the same time, one will get absorbed and one wont. Or, half of one and half of the other, etc. To be scientific about it, the two of them depend on the same substrate carriers and co-transporters.

This is from what I've read. However, I also know some supplement companies sell a creatine/l-glutamine product, so maybe they know something I don't. Either way, with my money, I'd rather be safe than throw away the powders.

You can be right, I remember reading something about a other product competing with creatine for the way they transport themselves. I donīt remember if it was glutamine though.

Yes a lot of products contain creatine and glutamine, remember that these companies are the ones that put creatine into liquid and make you drink creatinine.

i am not exactally a beginer at lifting i have been lifting for 3 years or so. i have never been much into suppliments. i have always taken protein though and have tried creating and it didnt seem to help me that much. Someone said that it helps a lot if you take it with sugar but i havnt tried it yeat. The one thing is that i am not allowed to use creatine, if my parents knew that i did they would not be happy. so i try to stay away from it as much as possible but so far i have found it imposible to get anything that is that good without creatine in it.

The best 'supplement' by far for putting on size is food. You didn't even mention your diet, which is even more important then training itself. Do you think Ronnie Coleman or NFL players get their size from eating a paltry diet, and just taking supplements? My advice would be to read this sticky, and concentrate on the bulking advice. http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/sh...ad.php?t=21113 . I would add some whey protein powder, fish oil and a multi-vitamin.... then EAT.

I concur with Jersey Devil. If you are lacking energy at your age it is probably due to a poor diet (including soda) and lack of proper sleep. Learn all you can about eating right before bothering with anything more than a post-workout shake consisting of whey protein and carbohydrates (and water).

ditto.... learn how/what to eat as well as train properly

This myth belongs in the same category as "don't eat more than 30, no wait, 40..uh..is it 20?....grams of protein at one sitting.

Posted by: Tank316

and i'll say it once again. Bcaa's are they best thing to take next to a protein supplement!

Simply not true. You were misinformed. In fact, the presence of amino acids has been shown to help creatine absorption in some people.

Completely agree with you on this.

I eat as much as i can. every meal i eat as much as i can. i stay away from pop (soda) as much as posible. i drink a lot of water and try to get as much protein in my diet as posible. i know what is bad for me and i dont eat it and what is good for me i will eat it even if i dont like it (vegitables)

As for the creatine issue. Creatine is a waste product. taking creatine is like drinking concentrated urine. it can easily mess ur kidneys up if not used exactally right. And just because creatine is created naturally doesnt mean that you should supliment with it, assid is made naturaly but i wouldnt make a assid drink and drink it.
THere is a lot more to that issue but that is just some of the reasons that my dad doesnt approve.

Count calories and protein. Keep raising the amount of calories you eat until you see gains. Eat at least 6 to 8 times day. Food is the answer.
