okay so this is my first time posting in this forum, but i've been reading posts from here a lot lately. I've been training for a long time, but my gains are startingto slow down, i think its because i've never really put too much consideration into my diet. until now.
i recently discovered fitday.com, and that has really motivated me to eat enough of the right foods to gain weight. anyways, as hard as i try, usually my carb, protein, fat %'s each day is around 40/30/30 with 3300 to 3900 calories. i'd like to get those percentages to 40/40/20, as i understand this is the best ratio for bulking?
well heres my diet on any given day:

breakfast:
3 extra large eggs (usually i just eat the whites, but sometimes i eat the yolk out of one of them)
2 pieces of 100% whole wheat toast w/ peanut butter
glass of 1% milk
glass of oj

snack:
a Mammoth shake w/ water (485 cals, 9g fat, 76g carbs, 25g protein)
whole orange

lunch:
boneless skinless chicken breast (1 sometimes 2)
lettuce, brocolli, carrots
1% milk

snack:
turkey sandwich on 100% ww bread (only lettuce on it)
milk

dinner:
some sort of meat (ex: pork roast, steak, chicken, hambruger, etc.)
rice and/or salad
milk

snack:
mammoth shake

thats basically what i eat obviously with a few exceptions here and there. so any suggestions on foods i should add/change?
thakns in advance

Could you please post the macros for each meal? Meal portions would be nice too.

Posted by: White_Pony

macros? sorry i'm not sure what you mean?
unless you mean calories, protein, carbs, fat per meal?

well i'm not really sure becasue those aren't "set" meals, i pretty much just try to eat every 2-3 hours or when i get hungry. but i'll do my best.

breakfast: 441 cals, 13g fat, 55g carb, and 29 g protein

snack: mammoth w/ water (485 cals, 9g fat, 76g carbs, 25g protein)

lunch: 1 small to medium size chicken breast: 418 cal, 14 fat, 15 carb, 55 protein
with broccoli and milk...total: 545 cal, 17g fat, 32 carb, 66g protein.

snack 2: 245 cals, 5g fat, 27g carb, 24g protein

dinner (varies): 468 14 61 24

Yes, and what are the totals for the day?

You guys got to write this stuff out if you want help.

Posted by: stu_20_uk

thats only 2184 cals in total not much for a bulking diet IMO

Posted by: White_Pony

well according to fitday.com, i get around 3200-3800 calories a day. I guess just some days i eat more, some days i eat less. For the foods and stats i listed there, it was the things that i had eaten/going to eat today.

yeah sorry for not posting the daily total, i sort of forgot about that.

Posted by: calalily1972

Yeah, I don't see 3200 cals there. I'll break it down.

Not enough protein here. You should be getting 40-50G protein per meal. How much PB are you eating?

snack:
a Mammoth shake w/ water (485 cals, 9g fat, 76g carbs, 25g protein)
whole orange

Easy on the fructose. You don't need alot of juice & fruit or it will be just stored as fat. Again, not enough protein. You need some complex carbs instead like oats, brown ricet etc.

lunch:
boneless skinless chicken breast (1 sometimes 2)
lettuce, brocolli, carrots
1% milk

This is good but how about some EFA's like fish oil

snack:
turkey sandwich on 100% ww bread (only lettuce on it)
milk

Again, Fish Oil?

dinner:
some sort of meat (ex: pork roast, steak, chicken, hambruger, etc.)
rice and/or salad
milk

Fine

snack:
mammoth shake

You would be better off with Cottage Cheese and Natty PB or better yet, fish oil.

I think your diet is lacking complex carbs and EFA's. Your protein appears to be too low and I do not see 3200 cals in there

thanks for the info! I really appreciate it.
usually for breakfast i have around 1 table spoon of PB...
yeah that does seem low calorie wise, i'm probably haven't listed a few things.

What are some good sources of protein? Except theres a catch here because I don't like fish or cottage cheese (well, any cheese for the matter). Bad experience with fish as a kid. haha
Should i maybe just go out and buy a tub of whey protein or something...and have 1 or 2 of those a day as well as having 2 Mammoth shakes? Or would that be too many shakes per day?

that diet is extremely low in fiber and basically devoid of low GI complex carbs...

Posted by: White_Pony

what exactly are GI complex carbs? Like what are some examples?

Also, with fish oil capsules or whatever, how many (or how much) would i have to take per day?
