i was reading a thread last nite that was about a year old. i believe jodi and p-funk were the ones discussing it. anyways, if i read it right, it said there is no need to count the calories in green veggies due to the high fiber content. did i read it right or maybe it was a dream? if thats true that is something i did not know and probably many others dont either. i believe its a good piece of advice that should be added to the stickys ...imo.

Depends on the diet. If you are cutting for a competition then I count. Most people however are not dieting for a comp so counting veggies is a waste of time IMO.

Even when I was dieting for my competition I didn't count the greens. I consider them free food.

I did too, at first then closer to the comp I had to make sure I was only eating 1 cup at a time. When you have to eat as low of cals as I do that close to comp you have to measure every little ounce of everything.

yeah, what were you at? Like 1200??

Lower About 1K

UGH....that sucks!! poor baby.

Posted by: calalily1972

That was only in the last few weeks but it sucked ass.

I didn't count mine while cutting, although I wasn't cutting for competition. It didn't seem to hinder fat loss in any way.

I know that's low but I was only 115lbs and still trying to lose fat pre-comp. I didn't have much of a choice

I just eat veggies and don't count at all, it was only that one time I had to.

Haha, I hear that. When I was doing me "see food" diet I would sometimes eat 1000 calories worth of peanut butter in one sitting. I could crush a jar in 2-4 massive servings.

Bump. That is the only way I will ever get an accurate calorie total. I actually eat enough fiber to provide a meaninful amount of calories as well. Sometimes I even estimate that.

The big can of green beans I buy at Sam's provides somewhere b/w 480-580 calories total. It can make a big difference!

maybe just dont count salad or other low cal. ones....but definitly broccoli etc.

Posted by: sara

I defenitly not count the Broccoli

Posted by: sentricyphen

hmm, well i was thinking that it was higher in carbs than the rest, i could be wrong...

Posted by: sara

Broccoli is still a green veggie Take a look at the fiber content of Broccoli..

Calcium from Broccoli?
Broccoli is a good source of calcium. One cup (chopped and cooked) supplies nearly 180 milligrams, about 60% as much as in a cup of milk. A 1997 study found that this calcium is absorbed as well by the body as that in milk. (University of California at Berkeley Wellness Letter, 1998)

yeah its not that high in calories after all...
