Helping my guy friend lose weight-QUESTION

Im helping one of my guy friends lose weight but not to sure on what his caloric intake should be to lose weight/drop bf? In Tom Venutos BFFTM Book it suggests a rough estimate for a male losing weight should be around 2200-2700 cals a day but it also gave an easy mathematical way to figure it out which is 12-13 x body weight is that correct-he weighs 240 any help would be appreciated thank you

You could go about it 2 ways, first get him to tally up everything that he eats for one week. Then divid by 7. If he has not gained/lost weight during that period, then start by cutting back on the weekly average of calories. By 200 or so to begin with, decreasing by 100/week until weight loss occurs.

Or simply begin at around 12X bw.
