Yeah, that's a real shame.

Yanks lead in the AL East has gone from 10.5 games to 3.5 games.

Posted by: I Are Baboon

LMFAO!!!

Posted by: MaxMirkin

Shit happens.

Posted by: Flex

as Mr. Burns would say, "Eeeeeeeeexcellent".

3.5 games, WOW. i am pumped.

Posted by: soxmuscle

It's definitly great for baseball, and something all baseball fans can celebrate when the Yankees get there asses handed to them.

It is a rare ocassion that's for sure. The odds are in Boston's favor, I mean how many times can they lose to the Yankees in post season.. Sooner or later Boston has to win.

Posted by: gr81

I would love to see NY complete this self destruction path they have started on, and I am not even really a Boston fan! ha ha, fucc the Yanks

Come my son. Join me, and together we can rule the universe as father and son.

YEEEEEEEEAH BUDDYYY. i'll make a SOX fan outta you if its the last thing i do.

last time i checked sox were up like 12-5 tonite, and yanks up 4-3.

Sox are, dare i say, en fuego right now

Posted by: P-funk

the worst part is I am a huge cleveland fan and I had tickets to that game and turned them down because I felt bad about cancelling 2 of my clients on such short notice....I am so mad right now.

I have always liked Boston, they have been one of my fav teams. I just don't like baseball that much honestly. I love Ramirez thou, and Pedro is a prick but a great pitcher. Playin good D finally too I see huh! lol

Posted by: I Are Baboon

The Yankees have a worse team ERA than the Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Posted by: MaxMirkin

We'll see who laughs last, fuckers.
(Honestly, if Yanks don't win this year, I'll be ok with that. So long as the the BlowSucks don't win! Can't let a nice streak like that end now. Last year was so sweet. )

Posted by: tucker01

I remember Back in the Blue Jays Hay days. The Ridicule they took for getting there ass whipped 22-4 by the Brewers around the same time in the season. They went on to win the World Series. Just a thought, but Fuck the Yankees

Do they have any shirts that say "Boston Red Sox - World Champions - 1918"?

Max, what wed page did that shirt come from?

Posted by: I Are Baboon

See, that's the difference between Sox and Yanks fans. Sox fans just make fun of the Yankees and their fans, while Yankee fans take shots at the mentally handicapped.

The funny part of this all, is that all Yankee fans, or ones that actually know there ass from a baseball, which MaxMirkin doesn't fit into, say that they give nothing about the Red Sox and that the Yankees are always in first and don't look back at the Red Sox.

Another funny thing about Yankee fans is how they seem to think what happened in the past means anything.

"1918" -- Wow, im devastated that some idiot said 1918 to me. Get real.
"26 Championships" -- That really matters to whats going on this year.

Such losahs...

I don't care about the Sucks. Just responding to all you geniuses.....plus their fans are kind of slow.

As for you kid, once you turn 18 and maybe get to know what loving someone other then your hand feels like, then we'll chat. Adios retardo.

Posted by: Flex

you know what the funniest thing is?

all the yankee fans are quiet AS FUCK now. i'm talking about all my buddies and people who i know who are "diehard" yankee fans.

This time of year, right before the playoffs start, when the Yanks are usually getting ready to comfortably sail deep into the playoffs, is when most Yankee fans come out of the closet.

But wait, they're only up 2 games now. They don't talk much shit anymore. How come? The only shit i ever hear is "1918". Guess what? i don't care what happened back then. Were you guys alive for more than the few world series teh Yanks have won the last few years? doubt it.

Alls i'm saying is its easy to root for the favorite. But ya know what? i actually prefer rooting for the underdog. When teh Patriots were gonna get "killed" by the Rams and pulled one of teh biggest upsets ever in sports, being the underdog made it that much better. Whether the Sox are doing well or are in the shitter, at least Sox fans are loyal and proud to be Sox fans.

You don't hear Yankee fans going crazy now. Even after buying the the best player in baseball, one of the best outfielders in baseball, and one of the best pitchers in baseball, who, by the way, just hurt his hand jerking Steinbrenner off after he lost.

Yankee fans are so gay.

Well in their defense, that's about all they can say right now. I can't wait for next week. For for the first time since I can remember, the Sox pitching and defense are better than the Yanks', and anyone who knows anything about baseball knows pitching and defense wins championships.

About Sox fan loyalty, I suppose it's easier to quit on your team and cheer for someone else, but that's why Sox fans are closer to each other than pretty much any other professional team's fans. Sox fans share a camaraderie that is umatched.

Yes, they jump off the bridge together....every fall.

Why is it that instead of cheering your team on, (as normal teams' fans usually do), this thread is all about how Yankees suck? Even when your team's doing great all you can think about are the Yankees......Pathetic.

Again, we'll see how they'll do in the playoffs. Until they prove themselves in October, this is all meaningless.

Posted by: hithard51

hahahahaha yea max good point this shit is all about how yankkees suk. that shows how much hatred we have caused the redsox and their fans over the years i actually enjoy hearing the redsox fans come together and talk about how we suk and its their year bacuse they aleways say its their year and we always end it. BOOYAAAA BOOYAAA

The next two months will be fun to watch!

Posted by: Yanks20

only thing i don't understand is that the sox are definately playing the best ball of the entire season right now and the yanks are in there worst slump! Yet they still remain on top of the sox!

IAB - yes the next two months are gonna be crazy! should make out for a great post season this year. going to 2 games next week when the sox are in town...

worst slump? What in gods name are you talking about?

Posted by: Yanks20

what i'm talking about is that the yanks have been by far playing their worst ball of the entire season (take a look at the stats, it is clearly a telltale sign) and don't get me wrong the sox are peaking right now (which may hurt come postseason) and yet they still trail the yanks by 3.5 games. that is what i'm talking about

Posted by: I Are Baboon

WURD.

But keep in mind 10.5 games is a HUGE gap to close. The Yanks are not playing well, but they are still winning a lot of games. Should be interesting to see how NYY do this weekend against Baltimore. The O's can actually hit the ball, unlike the sorry ass Devil Rays.

Figures that the Sox kick the piss out of Anaheim, Texas, and Oakland, then lose to Seattle.

wow Max, i didnt know you were a comedian as well as a Yankee fan

Instead of cheering my team, alls i do is bash the Yanks? you serious? A good part of the entire thread is Sox bashing, so i decided to retaliate, that's all.

and trust me, i'm NOT thinking about the Yankees, WHATsoever.

Seriously though, winning the division would be nice, but it's not necessary. As long as we get INTO the playoffs, that's all that matters. We'll get Oakand, Minnesota or Anaheim in the 1st round, and I don't care which of the three it is. Sure winning the division would give us home field IF we advanced to the ALCS, but it's been proven over and over again that home field advantage means jack shit.

I'd be perfectly happy taking the Wild Card spot.

You always end it, huh? that's funny, cuz last time i checked, you werent the world champs. in fact, you didnt win the year before either.

you wanna know why Sox fans always say its "our" year? Its because we live in the present. As a matter of fact, i don't recall ANYONE but Yankee fans always bringing up past championships and living in past glory (even if the glory is almost a century ago!)

I'm a Celtics fan. I don't live in past glory and time after time say they won 16 championships and they are the best NBA franchise ever. You know why? Because i watch them now, and they suck now.

Do you ever current hear Montreal Canadien fans talking about the most storied hockey franchise ever? no, because they havent won LATELY.

We always say its "our" year b/c us Sox fans care about this season. We don't care what our team did a half century or over the last decade.

Have the Yanks had more success the past decade? No question. Are they the most storied franchise in baseball? no question. But we prefer the phrase "what have you done for me lately".

Posted by: Yanks20

if the sox win the wild card they would most likely have to face either Oakland/Anaheim since they will probably have the second best record with the winner of the division taking on the central winner (i think that is how the formula works). anyway IAB your right as long as the team makes the playoffs that's all that counts at this time of year.

this weekend should be interesting since the O's just took 2 out of 3 from us in NY. but hopefully the team looks they are finally hitting the ball again so it should make a good warmup to next weeks showdown.

on a side note, i think i made a complete blunder in benching Brady (29 points) last night in fantasy and decided to go with Favre! Favre better have a good game or i'm gonna bench his ass

bro, making up 10.5 games isnt easy. so to grab 7 is MORE than playing great....

and damn, kid! you're going to the games! thats great. It's sad to say and it breaks my heart to say it, but i've never been to Fenway. It's a long, terrible story, but never have. I was lucky enough to catch two Sox/yank games in the Bronx, and damn did we have a good time. My boy was so hammered by the 2nd inning, he went to get a hot dog and literally didnt come back til the 7th. (we think he went to Shea)

Posted by: Flex

and sorry to keep blabbering, but check out my first thread up there a little bit about "my yank boys always talk shit"...

they are SO pathetic that they had to stoop so low last night and start insulting the Pats/Brady cuz i'm a Pats fan also. They can't talk shith about the yanks, cuz they arent doing shit, so they have to insult my beloved Pats....pathetic

Posted by: Yanks20

i'll be the first to give the sox props for making up so many games so quickly (personally i didn't see it happening either). and i'm just saying this as a true baseball fan (cause there is nothing more i would love to see than the yanks/sox in the ALCS again) i just hope they aren't peaking to soon and possibly fall hard come playoff time.

and yeah, i'm really pumped up about next week. i almost feel like i should be taking some time off from work cause you know each night is gonna kill me.

i know how most guys who love the yanks always talk shit about anything boston but if you truly love the game you have to also root for them cause that is where the best competition is gonna come from no matter how you look at it

Oh man, Fenway is such a great experience. I've probably been to about 75 games in my life. Not bad considering I'm two hours away. I've seen Pedro pitch like 10 times.

I have not been to any games this year. I tried to get tickets when they first went on sale, but I could not get through on the phone or internet so I gave up. You can get tickets on Ebay, but they aren't cheap.

Edit: I've been to Yankee Stadium a couple of times. I've also been to Camden Yards, the old Veteran Stadium in Philly, Shea Stadium, Olympic Stadium (Montreal), Tropicana Field (Tampa Bay), Edison Field (Anaheim), and Pro Player Stadium (Florida Marlins). I am hoping to check out a Giants game when I am in San Fran next week.

Posted by: hithard51

flex i meant we always end the REDSOX year i dont give a shit if we lost to marlins that was the best satisfaction in sports when u guys thought u had it and u wrere only what 6outs away up by 3 and we came back against pedro no less and then won it in yankee fashion with walk off homerun that was the greatest sdhit then to watch news after and see boston fans rioting in streets HAHAHAHAH that was satisfation

The best Red sox team I ever saw was the 1975-76 RED SOX.

Were you locked in the gym for the first month of the season?

Posted by: solid10

The Sox are playing great now but as history dictates they will falter in the end.
To be honest with you the Red sox losing in the end adds to their drama, if they ever won the world series they would never be looked at the same way.
Just like the lovable cubs.
I remember the Mets of the 80's before they won the series in 1986 they were loved by the whole city, but after 1986 they were expected to win all the time and when they didn't they were criticized big time.

Posted by: solid10

So basically the Red Sox being losers is actually good for Baseball.
By the way I just love Fenway park.

I completely agree that the Sox losing adds to their drama, but if they win, i don't even think they'll have a chance to be looked at differently, the entire city of Boston will blow up. If (or should i say, when) the Sox win it all, fans will be relieved, number one, and secondly, will think of anything less as a letdown (like you said), just like the Yanks do.

i really agree with the rest of your post, but history? history? come on, bro. in sports the previous years don't mean much. every year is a new year, new players, new positions, new chances. Yank fans of all people should know that. They have failed the last 3 years to win. Blew it against Zona, lost to Florida and missed out when Anahiem won. That's forming a pretty consistent history of losing, no? But in reality, do you care? no. You know as well as i every year is a new chance. They won a few Series over the last decade. But, Is that good enough? no. I prefer the phrase "what have you done for me lately.

Posted by: Johnnny

What a damn shame, I feel really bad for the team

Posted by: solid10

Actually yes.
I have can die in peace knowing they have. Don't get me wrong I have always liked and respected the Bosox, now the fans do tend to have a chip on their shoulders.
Now I really hate the dodgers though.

Posted by: Flex

I know with the Pats over the last 3 years i've been more spoiled than i could ever imagine. My Superbowl need is fulfilled, but once you get up there, you only wanna get back. They werent supposed to win that much, or beat the Rams, or have such a good season last year, or win the Superbowl. but now they are, and it seems like anything less is tough to swallow.

i understand you're need is fulfilled with a few Series. But at the same time isn't anything less a letdown? otherwise Yank "fans" could care less whether their team finishes in last place from now on?

Posted by: solid10

No, you are right to some extent. When the Yankees lost to Arizona and the Marlins I was sad but at least I knew they would still be competitive. Unlike the Mets who really disappoint me time after time.
