I workout in school at about 2:30 and come back home and eat about 3-4 peices of chicken (leg, breast). Will that give me enough protein as if i took a protein shake after coming home?

A whey shake would be better. It is absorbed faster.

Real food is better than shakes. Also, the chicken probably has the same amount or more protein (this depends on what protein you use and how many scoops). Either one is fine though. PWO you could do a shake and then a real meal a little later.

Yes, PWO is good to have whey protein or egg whites

Not necessarily...it depends on how they are used

whey is better for after your workout. Supplement with some fruit, namely peaches and cherries and you have a terrific environment for anabolsim to occur. BTW-aggies1ut, you're wrong in this case. Chicken, while a good source of protein, is not as good as a whey shake.

Chicken has a low bioavailability, meaning that it isn't as easily absorbed as protein into the body. Whey protein is the highest bioavailable thing that you can take in(protein wise). In my opinion, there is NO SUBSTITUTE for a post-workout(PWO) shake.

I have to agree with the fruit cat.

I agree with the fruit cat and the inverted rabbit.

i dont think aggie was saying chicken was better than whey. i believe she was saying chicken has as much protein as whey (depending on scoops.)

Yup, that's what I meant. His question was asking if there was the same amount of protein in the chicken, as with a shake, not necessarily which was more optimal PWO.

gram wise, yes. But in this case, the better choice for after a workout would most definitely be whey or egg white. Whey being the better of the 2.
