Has anyone been following this chase? Ichiro is on target to break the single season hits record of 257, set 84 years ago. He's on pace for something like 270 hits. That is UN-FRIGGIN-BELIEVEABLE. In a one month stretch from July to August, he hit something like .560.

Too bad the Mariners suck right now, or more people would be paying attention.

Don't trade him! he's all I have to hold onto, BUT if there's any sort of pattern in seattle, he won't be around much longer.

true, but we could get alot for him right now. we could get startign pitching, which we NEED unbelievably bad. Think about it, Moyer is our "ace" and he has not had a good season. you can't win without an ace. They can't trade Brett Boone, he makes too much money and no one wants him. The rest of the team is too old, or too young and not worth anything. I agree that we usually trade away player prematurally, but in theis case I think we need to sign some big name impact players to really go anywhere in eth next ten years. They could pick up a starting and relief pitching for him most likely. anyways fucc the mariners, its all baout the seahawks in this town nowadays!

Ichiro will never be traded, and will most likely never play anywhere else besides Seattle mainly because he is what keeps fans in the seats.

I mean, who would be going to a Mariner game the last few months if Ichiro wasn't on the team.

Plus, you guys have a great kid in Jeremy Reed debuing tonight. Watch him.

not so much actually, attendance is lower than its been in YEARS for seattle. we have lead teh league numerous times in attendence, especially teh year we won 116 games, but also other seasons around taht time frame. Look at what Ichiro is doing right now, and look at our attendence numbers, they are pathetic. Winning games sells tickets. For years the mariners had hirrible attenance records in the kingdome despite their all star lineup and Ace pitcher in Big Unit. Its all about winning games first, and pitching is gonna do that.

your right, he probably isn't. I am just saying that I think something drastic needs to happen for that organization to turn around and if i was running teh show I would try and see what I could get for him. thats all. I live in seattle and have been a huge fan of them since back in the day, and let me tell you that baseball in seattle has been on a steady decline since trading Griffey. The franchise is not being run the right way and thats evident by the moves they make. Instead of trying to prepare for the future and put together a winning teeam, they have been trying to appeal to a larger audience in this town, and that has hurt them in the long run. The chock of teh new stadium has worn off by now and we need to win games, and we need an ownership that is going to make the effort and show teh city tehy wanna win games and not sit on their hands like they are doing! thats my opnion anyways. however you spin it, Fucc the Yankess!! lol

This is Seattles first under .500 season since opening Safeco Field, so personally I think some slack needs to be cut. Sure they tried to get one more year out of guys like Olerud, Aurillia, Boone, Edgar, etc. and although that didn't work, they will have a big offseason in my opinion. They traded Freddy Garcia, and got two players to build around Ichiro with in the Minor League Player of the Year, and often called a potential superstar in Jeremy Reed, and also were able to get a catcher I love in Miguel Olivo all on top of Michael Morse another good prospect. The Garcia trade, on top of money being freed up with the departing of Edgar, Aurillia, Olerud, Garcia, etc. they will be definite players this year in the free agent market.

Could Seattle possibly be the destination for Carlos Beltran? An outfield of Reed, Beltran, and Ichiro sounds quite good to me for the next six or seven years or how about Carl Pavano and/or Matt Morris.

Either option sounds good, and is a definite possibility.

We became a playoff team finally, after 20+ years of medioracy and do we build off that, nope. They went from having no pitching and a great offensive team, to no offense and good pitching, to having neither and showing no progress. They have just made it hard to be a fan, and I don't really care about baseball to begin with, but I don't have to like what they are doing do I? I don't thik they shoulda traded Garcia personally, but thats another convo. They had money LAST year as well and what type of moves did they make for a big name free agent? none.

Shouldn't have traded Garcia to let him become a free agent and pick up a draft pick? are you crazy?

Im glad we can agree on one thing, being that we hate the Yankees, but trading Garcia was inevitable.

you know gr81, I'm going to have to agree with you on trading him. as much as i'd hate to see such a great player go, we need to pick up some pitching. (i still dont really understand how we benefitted from the garcia trade..)... BUT, i have lost all confidence in our ability to get anything good for him. the way things have gone, I have a hunch after the trade, I'd just be tearing up...

The Garcia trade was a complete rip off on the part of the Mariners. Sure it was what the market valued, but the market for an above average pitcher and no better shouldn't be the Minor league player of the year, a future all-star catcher, and a solid future shortstop.

You killed three birds with one stone, and instead of just getting a draft pick you have three stars.

Give me a break, don't worry, be happy.

He is indeed a hitting machine. It is a shame that there isn't any press on it.
Our San Diego paper has not had a single thing on it.

However, it's going to be like Babe Ruth's old (pre Magwire, Sosa and Bonds)
home run record. Ichiro will break it, but he will do it in 162 games
and Sisler did it in 154 games.

I will still applaud the guy. the competition is so much tougher today then back then.

Jeremy Reed has been 22 for 52 with 10 runs scored a .423 batting average, .474 on base percentage, and despite having no home runs a .500 slugging percentage since being called up.

He's my favorite Mariner, he's a star in the making.

In that one spot, a top flight free agent should be acquired, hey why not Matt Clement or Matt Morris who in my mind can easily anchor a pitching staff. I think they both have great arms.

Rafael Soriano will be healthy and as effective as ever. The same can be said for Eddie Guardado.

There is definitly some talent in the line-up and pitching staff. I don't know the budget, but I do know that this Mariners team although rebuilding, is not "done," and can be a real player next year in the AL West.

Troy Glaus, Omar Vizquel, Craig Counsell, Junior Spivey are some notables for that infield, or lack there of. There are also reports that Alfonso Soriano is available, as is Paul Konerko and Carlos Lee of the White Sox.

Again, I have no idea what to do with this team, because I don't know the budget, I don't know the owner, and I am not working for the Seattle Mariners.

All I can say about what they should do, is if they are truly committed to winning, they should go out, get some new faces, fill some holes and build around there young talent i.e. Olivo, Reed, Pineiro, Meche, etc.
