Is monogamy really natural?

From Robert............Great question!

I think it was probably meant to be natural, but anymore, it's becoming less and less....

Look at how many people get divorced these days. The numbers are only growing, and eventually, people may not even bother getting married, and if they do, it might be understood to be temporary, I guess that's just how things evolve.

Nope, we ain't wolves baby!

I am happy in a monogamous relationship. I am not out cat'n around. But I did have to learn how to be comfortable when I started to live the life. I was born lucky cuz women like me. I really like their smells and tastes, the feel of their bodies as they get off. I wanted to nail everything that looked good to me when I was younger. It made it harder cuz when I first married I was lead singer and guitar player in a band (the band thing was over 7 weeks later).

So no I had to learn to be monogamous ... it was not natural for me.

I don't think so...
being monogamous is a choice that a person makes

Posted by: Sapphire

I agree. It's a choice we make. I enjoy being with my bf. I am not interested in dating other men. He completely satisfies me. BUT I do find other men attractive and I WOULD date them if I was single.

I agree 100%

evolutionarily speaking, or rather "educationally" speaking, monogomy has been justified as natural among humans, as well as alot of nature, through the use of pair bonding

but that doesn't mean that's right exactly, i haven't really given it much thought so if i have to put my money somewhere right off the bat i'd say monogomy is natural, and that most claims against it are people confusing private desires for basic instincts- what's "natural" for one person may not be for another, or that since one person wants to do it everyone does.

Posted by: Crono1000

either way, i think it's up to the couple. if they want to be swingers together, be swingers. If they want to be exclusive with each other, be exclusive. If there's not a match in this aspect of the relationship, i think it's time to find a different partner

I had a teacher back in school who used to say monogamy was what seperated us from the beasts. Now I look around and notice that the beasts only kill for food, don't have wars, their imperfect members die off naturally, they don't pollute their surroundings and when it's their time to die, they die with dignity.
Organized religion, the people who brought you countless wars, including the shit we're involved in now, brought us monogamy. It's what we are conditioned to expect and live with, but it isn't nature's way.

I do not think it's natural, as civilized, intelligent beings it's a way of life most of us choose.

Posted by: cmason2004

aren't some animals monogamous?

Apparently yes there are mongamous animals and I think whales pair for life, but there is then the chance for extinction.

Posted by: Crono1000

i have never heard of monogomy leading to extinction

sure, monogomy takes place in a lot of nature. most birds only have one life partner

in fact, I AM the "mate" of my pet bird

i guess that makes me a "player"

Only two women voted..........................

Posted by: Spitfire

No, but sensible

Posted by: Luke9583

although I could see going both ways on this topic..... I really like the idea of finding that one person where we could make eachother happy the rest of our lives.

Posted by: shutupntra1n

I didn't vote b/c I really don't know if it's natural. I think it's natural to feel attracted or sexually stimulated by another person but at that point we choose to "control" our feelings would seem like a logical response. If nothing else, I always thought the worst part of cheating was not the dishonesty but the chance you take passing an std along to your unsuspecting partner. That's a crime in itself.

Posted by: shutupntra1n

After rereading my own post I think I convinced my ownself then voted NO

Posted by: jack52

Throwing STD into the mix brings me over to no too. But I still don't care for the organized religion thing.

i'm w/ you on that one Jack.

ps. dont tell lis though.

Luke, why did you vote women yes?? Are you trying to tell us something??

I think it's natural for a man to try and spread his seed as much as possible, but alas, we resist the urge in the name of civilization and marriage (sigh).

Posted by: Luke9583

I miss understood it...

It's natural for women, but not neccessarily for men.

I don't know if it's natural, but it's guaranteed pussy!

LOL, it's easy to tell the single guys from the married guys. Like most manufactured things, after the first year there are no guarantees expressed or implied. Caveat Emptor applies for many. Frankly, the realities and time crunch caused by the complexities of life, jobs and business etc. and everyone always being in a rush to catch up make it pretty much guaranteed that some would often rather just kick back and relax wen you get that rare spare time or actually get some time to talk and catch up on each other. I even know of guys who encourage their wifes to discretely seek occasional satisfaction with other trusted men (or women) just so they have the energy and time to do the fun stuff like fish, enjoy a cigar, work on their new classic car renovation and body build.

Stirring the pot,

From a religious stand point, monogamy is not normal. We are told that "our flesh" will have desires for the opposite sex and that we need to control it.

From an evolutionary stand point it is not normal either, because guys would be wanting to spread their seed to as many places as possible.

But based on our religious heritage and societal norms, we try to stay monogamous to preserve the bond of trust and love with our mate.

Which brings us back to the old diet analogy . . .

Being married is like being on a diet.

You can check out the desert menu (other girls),
but you can't order anything.

I think it's normal for men AND women to look at and fantasize about sex with others besides their "partner", but speaking for myself I am not even remotely interested in anyone else besides my BF, I am not sure why, except, he satisifies me completely and I love him totally. We also play alot, different positions, different locations, in front of mirrors, taking pics "while", playing games with toys and food etc....
