after sweeping the doubleheader with the Twins yesterday and combined with Pedro getting shelled again (0-4 last 4 starts) the yanks are 1 win from clinching the AL East.

now the Angels have taken over the AL West and a 1/2 game lead on the Twins it looks like this could be the matchup in the first round. but then again the A's/Angels have a 3 game series that will determine the AL West champ.

Fucking Terry Francona has basically GIVEN UP on the regular season anyway. He sat Manny the last two night and sat Johnny Damon last night. No way we're going to win too many games with Gabe Kapler leading off and playing CF.

Bronson Arroyo should be the Sox #2 playoff starter, behing Schilling. Pedro sucks lately, thanks to Francona overworking him all season. Pedro went 3-0 with an 0.67 ERA the last month of last season. This season: 0-4 with an ERA near 8.

pedro is just too tired and not being the dominating pitcher he has been in the past. were is the you know i will plunk you at any time i want attitude. i mean his comments about calling the yanks his daddy probably don't sit well with the club either. other than schilling the only other pitcher who has had the yanks on the ropes is wakefield who again could become the pitcher he was in the postseason last year, especially with the weather getting colder (which benefits him!)

it looks like the yanks with throw mussina, lieber, hernandez, vazquez as the four starters with brown coming out of the bullpen. i just hope the bats don't get as quite as they did last year. remember that, it seemed like every time a runner even made it to first you were on the edge of your seat, nothing like the playoffs...

I have been a Francona basher all season, but blaming Francona for overworking Pedro is ridiculous. He goes every fifth day just like every other starter, should Francona be blamed for Lowe and Wakefield being "overworked" too simply because they have pitched terrible?

Lowe and Wake don't have stamina/strength issues like Pedro does. FranCOMA has consistently worked Pedro into the 8th inning and worked his pitch counts well over 100. If Pedro is not dead tired right how, how else do you explain his problems lately? And don't tell me it's just a slump, because "ace" pitchers DO NOT have four game losing streaks where their ERA pushes 8. Thank god for Curt Schilling. I hope I am wrong and Pedro gets his shit together for the playoffs, but it's not looking good right now. If Francona works Pedro this weekend, I am going to personally kick him in the nuts.

Don't feel too bad, IAB. Red Sox fans can have something to cheer about, too.

"Boston became the first team in major league history to finish in second place for seven straight years, according to the Elias Sports Bureau. "
