Are there any protein bars that taste good? .. I bought a couple of the Power Bar ProteinPlus and they taste so bad that I threw them in the garbage. I'm afraid to waste money trying other ones.

Why are you eating those things

http://www.ironmagazineforums.com/sh...t=Protein+Bars

I wouldn't put one of those near my mouth

Hi Tom, Thanks for that link. I read the thread and GoPro seems to think they are ok if used properly. My job changes up a bit this time of year and I'll be spending some time on the road. I was looking for something I could carry in the car to have a quick snack to meet my protein needs on the highway. There's nothing on the road but fast food joints..

Anyways, if they all taste like Power Bars I won't be putting them near my mouth either. Ackkkk... they tasted like compressed mud.

My constant posting of that link seems to have got my point across.

Protein Bars are EVIL!

Optimum Nutritions Protien Diet bars are pretty good

Posted by: LAM

I eat them all the time. there are far worse things you can put into your body than a protein bar...

I like the Trioplex bars. Detour bars are pretty good too, but heavy on the sugar. I don't think protein bars are evil. If it's a choice between McDonalds, a protein bar, or going catabolic, then I'll take the protein bar. I have one every day at some point when eating is a hassle.

They are evil! althought I do love their taste

If you people have to eat on the run all it takes is a little more planning! when my friends want to go out to the mall and I know I'll be there for more than 3 hours I bring a tupperware container of tuna, borwn rice, and a carb counting tortilla wrap, sure I get some stares and must look like a retard but when ya gotta eat, ya goota eat !
If your on the go make yourself a protein shake in advance, or bring a can of tuna with you, have some fiber1, get a premade container with some cottage cheese and almond butter in it ( by far my favorite meal ) theres tons of better options then protein bars, hell even homemade protein bars would be better! But people like making excuses so they can eat stuff they like .

i was reading something about how bad these 'detour' bars are, they are LOADED with sugar, apparently they have had to change the labelling of them twice after invesigations into the claims of it having a low amount of sugar, apparently it was like 220% more sugar in them than what they had claimed

i think that is really bad, if anyone wants to read it it was 1 of the reviews on www.bulknutrition.com for the detour bars, i won't touch any of them now

stick to protein shakes, and if you've got a sweet tooth your probably better off eating a kit-kat or something

"Thin-
k of it as Snickers® on steroids," reads the marketing literature for this new triple-layer bar, which, "takes the same great-tasting ingredients, caramel, crunchy roasted peanuts covered in rich chocolate, to deliver a nutritional profile unmatched in protein bar history."

To see if there was any truth to their claims of a nutritional profile unmatched in protein bar history, we sent Lot ID: "Enjoy By 121103 A" to Convance Laboratories, an independent nutritional testing firm. Results confirmed why this bar tastes so good — it's basically a dressed-up candy bar!

According to the label, the Detour bar contains 9 grams of fat; however, laboratory tests revealed 12.8 grams of fat-144 percent more than what the label claims. What's more, on the label, Detour bars claim only 6 grams of sugar; lab tests, however, revealed 18.8 grams of sugar per bar — a disturbing 313 percent more than what the label claims! The news doesn't get any better for the other nutrients.

They claim 32 grams of protein per bar; tests revealed only 23.8 grams of protein. Total carbohydrates: The label claims 21 grams; tests revealed 29 grams. Fiber: They claim 3 grams; tests show 1.7 grams. Total calories: They claim 209; tests revealed 326.

Not believing Designer could be so far off on label claims, we retested a different lot (Lot ID: Enjoy By 021704 A1 and A2). This was also after Designer changed their label claims to 310 total calories, 10 grams of fat, 25 grams of carbohydrates, 3 grams of fiber and 9 grams of sugar. Although the total calories, fat, carbs and fiber weren't off by too much, independent analysis still revealed 18.3 grams of sugar; 203 percent of the label claim.

Detour seems like an apt name for this bar as that's the route your nutrition program's going to take if you make a habit of snacking on these sugar daddies. More troubling than nutritionals, though, are the label claim inaccuracies. A range of plus or minus a few grams is expected — but 204 percent to 313 percent above label claims, as is the case with sugar, is simply outrageous.

I've stopped eating bars, but if I had to have one, it would be a trioplex cinnamon raisin roll flavor, hands down. The chocolate coconut one is good too, if you like coconut.

But yeah... if there's something I've learned in the past few months it's that iif you can eat a real food instead of a bar, go for that.

Ditto!

I know it's not popular around these parts but I eat 3-4 bars daily. I eat the EAS carb control and the Met-Rx protein plus bars. I do this mainly as an MRP. Since my gastric bypass surgery I have trouble getting enough calories and protein in and these seem to work best for me. I'm trying to bulk now and this is ridiculously hard to do when you can only fit in 7 oz per meal!

I've also gained 22lbs LBM in the last 5 1/2 months doing this. So are they really that bad for you?

Posted by: bulletproof1

3 or 4 a day? have you looked to see whats in those those "fat bars?"

Posted by: largepkg

Yep!

It doesn't look all that bad to me. Seems to be very balanced. If I'm wrong my body surely isn't complaining.

I have a protein bar once a week in my cheat day

how about homemade protein bars?

Posted by: Tom_B

homemade ones wouldn't be bad (unless you put in bad ingredients ) just make sure that if you don't use whey for the protein part since whey breaks ddown under high temp. so use either soy, or a type of powder made form eggs instead of whey (I think thats whats the diff) since they won't break down.

I have 2-4 bars a day. Still good pro and carbs and calories in there. I dont completely believe the 1 or 2 posts that have claimed this. I believe it was resolved. Besides, labeling is labeling. IF protein bars are mislabeld with the sugars being miscounted, then they are on EVERYTHING you eat that has a label (that needs to use glycerin). I'm betting over 50% of our food is mis labeled. I find it hard to believe you would all put animal bodies in your mouths. Gross.
