the real football.

Posted by: soxmuscle

No Thanks.

Posted by: iMan323

go away

Posted by: soxmuscle

You asked if there were any soccer fans, I just stated that I am not. I will no longer post in this thread, I apologize.

Posted by: Du

I wouldnt call it "the real football", but yea, I like soccer.

Posted by: Pepper

This will piss you off, but I think that soccer is the worst thing that has happened to this country sports-wise. Kids are all playing it now b/c parents perceive it as safer. Fewer kids are playing the real sports - football, basketball and baseball.

I depise soccer. There is no more boring a sport to watch.

Sorry. Had to say it.

Posted by: MaxMirkin

Soccer is fairly boring usually, but I enjoy the World Cup.

Posted by: JJJ

Yes I love football. In 1½ h its champions league again, I cant wait. I hope Zlatan scores against Bayern, although he is a punk.

People who dont like football and say that it is boring just does not understand it, all they understand and appreciate is scoreing or a hard tackle. Football is to complex and "classy" for them. (NOT trying to offend anyone)

American football is also fun to watch, although there is waaaayyy to much commercials and stuff like that. And lets face it, the only games that matter in am football is the 3 last, the regular season is useless

And its just rugby with 30 lbs of protection gear.

This is probably true. I know that two sports I follow - NASCAR and baseball - are often called boring. However, if you follow the sport, there is much more to it than what you see casually.

I assume soccer is the same way.

Nah, it's just boring.
I do like to watch the British/Scottish games, in hopes of catching a nice, bloody riot or two.

Posted by: Dale Mabry

I find all baseball except LCS and World Series baseball boring. I used to find Nascar boring, but I don't anymore. It is not something I will go out of my way to watch, but if nothing else is on I will watch it, before I would just play video games.

I do find Soccer boring, but I love playing it. I think that is the same with all sports, I like PLAYING baseball, Tennis, and Golf, but I hate watching it unless there is a championship.

Soccer is certainly not any safer then basketball or baseball. By your logic basketball and soccer players are lesser athletes then football players or hockey players. Soccer is a classier sport where technique and finesse are more important then physical strength.

Please re-read my quote.

I depise soccer. There is no more boring a sport to watch.<---me too

One thing about soccer is that it's a cheaper sport to run in schools than say baseball, football and hockey. All the equipment these sports use is very costly.
I do predict basketball will overtake soccer as the number 1 sport in the world. It's already spreading like a virus there now.

I like soccer because it has the dimensions of team play as well as individual play and its constantly in motion. There is a lot of strategy and mental agility that goes into the game and you have to "feel" what is going on since its very dynamic and constantly developing. It's a terrific blend of skill, intelligence, speed, strategy, emotion, timing, calculated risk and luck, and art.

This probably has nothing to do with anything but when he was asked why, when the American fighting man came in contact with the German soldier during WWII, the American soldier was more agressive and tougher and in an overwhelming percentage of cases victorius, General George S. Patton said it was because the American grew up playing football and the German grew up playing soccer.

Posted by: Vieope

Yes I am a soccer fan. Altough I could never watch american soccer, that is just not good. Now brazilian and european soccer are a whole different sport. It is so well played that is good to watch. People have Super Bowl in America and it is quite popular I know but nothing compares to a final match of the World Cup. It is the most popular sport in the world.

Posted by: jack52

More people eat rice than anything else too and it sucks too!

Of course V, if I could watch the Brazilians go at it every week, that might be a different story. It's not even the same game when you look at that piece of shit, MLS.

Soccer typically is a low scoring game. The real action and scoring starts after it's over.

MLS ain't half bad for the money that's put into them. And you non soccer fans need to get off my thread. Btw, Russians grew up playing soccer and they'd beat the bejesus out of american males one for one. Europeans are much tougher then americans. They just dont always have the advantage of steroids and McD's coming out oof their ass.

Are you Russian? For some reason I thought you were a Brit.

Posted by: jack52

I've tried and can't see the excitement in your sport. I enjoy the movement of the puck and strategy in Hockey, which some equate with soccer but the game seems interminably tedious (boring as hell). And what is the deal with not knowing when the damn game is going to end? The clock is always wrong it seems. They add time at the end. Nothing against Russians, but I've traveled there extensively and they are the most unhealthy group I've ever seen. I can't believe we ever perceived them as a threat.

Its effective playtime, the ref stops the clock during injuries, substitutions etc. The game is always 2*45 min, but not the 45 min on your tv, its 45 min on the refs wristwatches.

Posted by: iMan323

Yup, I'm Russian. Americans are well nourished and healthy but they just don't have any heart. Europeans are much more spirited. Hence, the world wars, the crusades, soccer riots, the holocaust, etc...

Posted by: MaxMirkin

I'm Russian too, and I can't say that we're any better or worse then Americans. Pretty much the same, IMO.

Posted by: jack52

Check the win column on those world wars. America is made up of the people of many lands who had the 'heart' or fortitude to dare to start anew in a difficult land. At least fifty Russians asked me how to get to come here while I visited there. We have plenty of heart, we're just not spastic.

Footy is fantastic. There's nothing better.

I like watching crunching American Football tackles, but the game stops and starts too much for me to get into it. And it's usually the same ol', same ol'. Just going through the motions. With footy it can be end to end stuff or one side near-raping the other. It's awesome watching.

And the only time i like watching baseball is when those freaky accidents they showed on Naked Gun happen. Which is never. Funny though.

Fights in ice hockey are brilliant though. Fuckin' love those, i do.

Anyway, boring sports = cricket and golf. They're just not spectator-oriented sports.

Posted by: aztecwolf

futbol is awesome, by far the sport that i had the most fun playing, it fits my hyperactive personality. I also give more props to great soccer players then other great athletes in the other major sports cause it baffles me what some of those dudes can do, especially those brazilians

Posted by: aztecwolf

I also plan on going to Germany for World Cup 2006, in '02 i got no sleep from watching all those games

Posted by: iMan323

I can't wait for the next round of the Champions League.

Posted by: JJJ

Ouch! Striker shortage in Liv since owen is sold, Florent Sinama-Pongolle is injured and now Cisse has a broken leg. Their gonna have a hard time against Deportivo.

Posted by: jack52

No sleep for me!

Ouch.

Is that his leg or his shin pad poking through?

Posted by: iMan323

I think it's a little bit of both. Ouch Sweet compound fracture. Why couldn't it be Zidane or Ronaldo instead?

Posted by: JJJ

Yeah I also think its a little of both.

iMan what you got against Real?

Posted by: iMan323

Everything. Mostly, the fact that they aquired so much individual talent. It's scary. I really really hope that Dynamo will kick their pansy superstar asses and go on to the next round of the Champions League.

Posted by: JJJ

Thats true, no one likes that sort of teams, but Id rather see Real then Dynamo on TV.

Posted by: iMan323

That could be explained by only one thing; you're not from Kiev.

Posted by: iMan323

Dynamo v Madrid ended in a tie 2:2

Posted by: JJJ

Id be impressed with Dyn if Real hadnt played crappy latley.

So which was the most beautiful goal this round? Gotta say Ronaldinho's

Posted by: perfectbody

wtf anyone who concerives the international football as lame sports just fuck off pls.
wtf I can't believe some stupid americans have such idea. OK we are not good at this kinda sports, there is no fuking way to critcise it in that way. Football is one of the most popular game in the world because it took longer participation of players and teamwork.
It does'nt matter who invented this game. But in the name of sportmanship, this is a great game and easy to play. If u have a ball, u can play it anywhere.
wtf America should change this lame attitude, look we still have not done pretty well in World Cup. Who gave a damn when the Basketball dream teams won golds at Olympics in the past. Imagine we won a World Cup.

I enjoy all other sports....anyway.

I haven't seen the highlights yet. We only get the english premier league on tv, and i have to go to a bar to see a dynamo game. So I dunno..is there a website that has video game highlights from the champions league?

Posted by: JJJ

I dunno about the website, they show it on TV over and over here where Im at.

Agree 100%, I stopped watching MLS Soccer when they eliminated the Miami Fusion, but still, the soccer is not very good.

Sorry. Had to say it.
Hey Pepper!!!!

What's doing chief....

I have to tell you, parents are not having their kids play soccer because it's safer. I am a parent and an uncle, and my nephew plays soccer because he likes running around kicking a ball. My children will play soccer because they find it fun to play and, it doesn't hit my pocket as much....
I am a strange breed. I love soccer and football, and baseball and basketball and even hockey, hell I even watch water polo.
Another reason why soccer is the most widely played sport in the world is that all you need is your feet and a ball, that's it. For football you need pads, a helmet, elbow pads, mouthpiece, etc. For baseball you need a helmet, bat (and you know those are expensive),etc. The only sport that I would compare is basketball, but you still need some sort of hoop and a pole, and the ball needs to bounce. Kids in Brazil play with balls made out of rags and I understand that the greatest, Pele, used to play with a coconut.....
What can get cheaper than that? So I'm a cheap bastard, sue me
Athletic wise? These people are BIG TIME athletes. How many football players can say that they play both ways all the time? How many stoppages of play are there in all the major sports? One of the most intense sports, hockey, is a sport where players can't play a full game, which is understandable because they are playing and getting leveled every moment. These men (soccer players) are running all game long playing against the clock with no timeouts. The only break they get is half time and an injury (fake or real). Hell, some of the best actors in the world play soccer....
One reason that the game is not too big here is because there is barely a chance for commercials. Money can't be made. Also, americans like scoring. There have been changes made to different sports (including football) that have allowed for more scoring. Soccer doesn't change, thus, no scoring and boring to some of us americans....
Just my .02, .03, .04...etc

Yeah, they should like get rid of goalies. Then we would watch.

Or, substitute a midfielder, throw in an extra ball.

Posted by: min0 lee

I see

Posted by: Gadsta

Being brought up in England I've been playing soccer since I was about 5 years old, I can honestly say that it is the best thing I have ever done. The team spirit, the passion, the skill and the competitiveness is great, soccer is now a worldwide language where only a ball is needed. The English Premier league is what soccer is all about, not the girly sport that some Americans believe it to be; I can imagine that MLS is boring, but it's a secondary sport in America. In England and a large part of Europe it's not only the major sport but it's a way of life too.

just like the Yankees

I think "el classico" is this sat or sun, man I cant wait, that is gonna be great!

Posted by: min0 lee

Is this what the fun is all about.

Posted by: iMan323

I love watching the english league.

Posted by: iMan323

MLS is boring because all the best players are bought by the european teams. Regarding the popularity of the sport, I think it's gaining ground in the states, at least here in NYC. I think overall it's becoming more and more visible in the states, but it might just be because I want to see it that way.

cant believe barcelona beat real 3-0 i thout it was gonna be a lot closer than that
