Where is EVERYONE FROM????

(CLICK HERE here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Where is everyone from, and how much are their monthly gym fees. Just curious.

I'll start it off
I'm in Flemington, NJ and GYM fees range from $40 to $65 bucks here - I figured 45lbs is 45 lbs -- so I stayed with the $40 gym fee. and around here - $40 bucks is dirt cheap.

All I want is to lift anyway - don't need the track/pool/basketball courts

Posted by: WATTS

im from southern california and my gym fee is 32 bucks a month and around here that seems pretty steep

Posted by: wannagetbig2001

im surprised!! I thought Southern CA was just as expensive as around here - WOW.. seems like its time for me to surch for another gym? hmmm

Posted by: bulletproof1

i believe the entire state of new jersey is a member here at IM.

Only certain parts of CT are expensive. Unfortunately, I live in one of the most expensive parts. I save 20 cents a gallon on gas by filling up near work instead of near home.

Shutup, I know your pain. I've had a paid up lifetime membership( no monthlyfee) for years. I stopped going to Ballys for many years because it was a terrible place to train, but for financial reasons I had to back there for nine months in 2003/2004. I was glad to finally get away from there again about 4 months ago.

As a serious trainer and a WOMAN who trains hard and heavy and knows what she's doing, you must stand out like a seriously sore thumb.

Posted by: easton

Sydney, Australia

Gym is free. (My employer pays for it)

Posted by: Egoatdoor

$34.99 a month and a one time $149 orientation fee at LA Fitness in Philadelphia suburbs.

My previous memberships were $42 a month at a non chain hard core gym and $45 a month three years ago at an overpriced, extremely crowded, mainstream oriented " don't train too seriously because the other members get intimidated " Golds Gym just outside Philly.

Posted by: JerseyDevil

New Jersey, 10 miles from Philadelphia. $25 a month for a family membership. No contract.

Posted by: Rocco32

Arlington, VA. I belong to TWO gyms because I'm such a dedicated, massive bodybuilder, LOL. One I pay 59.99 at and at Golds I pay $39.00 at.

Posted by: bracewater

Northern Virginia 30 miles outside of DC

NEW YORK and also a Ballys member. why don't you like Ballys, just wondering if it's for the same reasons?

Posted by: Big Smoothy

Saigon, Vietnam: lots of options.

Currently $2 USD per visit for full free weight, all cable, nautilus, jacuzzi, steam room, sauna, and professional bodybuilder staff who give free advice. Open 6 AM to 9:30 PM, seven days per week.

One can become a full memeber for about $40 USD per month to play tennis, swim, and other stuff.

Easton, MD.

A member of the YMCA, but this "Y" has mutiple suprisingly nice weight rooms. Not that I'm a fan of the people that train there or anything though...

Posted by: KarlW

Sydney, Australia. (payed 600 bucks Oz for 1 year)

I like the gym, only been there couple months cause we moved. Took me a while to find a gym that wasn't too exe (like 800-1000 bucks for the "studio" type gyms.....yuck!!!!).

Easton where do you train?

I know the question wasn't directed to me, but I couldn't resist the need to vent.

What's wrong with Ballys???
1. No gym etiquette whatsoever. The members( and the TRAINERS) do not strip the bars when they are done, there are plates all over the floor, the dumbbell racks are not marked, so DBs are put wherever, if people bother to put them back on the rack at all. I need a 20 pounder?? It might be in the aerobics room or lying underneath a machine somewhere. Good luck trying to find it... The place is full of "need a seeing eye dog because I am blind mirror hogs" who grab a dumbbell to curl and then insist to standing six inches from the rack and the mirror while they curl, oblivious as to whether you have already started a set behind them or else need to grab a dummbbell off the rack, which you can't do because they are blocking the way.
2. The staff is clueless and does not even enforce what few "rules" they have. The last Ballys I was in, there was a sign saying "no gym bags on the floor". I pointed out a guy carrying a bag to a trainer and he refused to do anything about it. Sure enough, a few weeks later, the 50 pound dumbbells disappeared.
3. Not enough equipment. There is no way you can get near the bench press on Monday night...take a number and come back later...one power rack, so at peak hours, forget about deadlifting( of course, no else deadlifts) or squatting because people insist on using the station for barbell curls.
4. If you are a woman and at any of all attractive, LOOK OUT. Most of the single guys are on the make and think the gym is a pick up joint, so unless you wear headphones, you will be hit upon repeatedly.

Posted by: sabre81

lol. I looked at ballys before i went to the buffalo athletic club. The only reason i didnt go was because they only had dumbblels up to 90 lbs. Otherwise, it was a nice place, at least here in buffao.

Posted by: dbolman

NYC; $2/mo at any of the chain of city-owned gyms.

I think he meant gyn. Or maybe Jim? Why is Jim carging monthly fees, he owes back child support!

Florida, And free.. My friend has a small OB-gyn in his garage that we use. But damn, his "reverse seated hip abduction " machine is set to high, or something. I cant even do one rep; damn near blew a blood vessel out in my head.

Thinking of joining Golds before the year is out though.

I'm from the SF Bay Area, California. I recently moved from SF to Hayward and recently joined Bally's. Bally's was an improvement compared to my previous gym (that one had no barbells). I'm still under the 30 day trial and I think I have a week left before I can cancel my membership and get my $100 back. I hate to hijack this thread but has anyone who left Bally's tried 24 Hour Fitness? Just wondering since there's one near my home.

Posted by: dbolman

Call 24 Hour Fitness saying that you'd like to try a workout; most gyms want business and are willing to accomodate as part of the sales process.

I can't speak from direct experience because there are none around here, but I read a thread on another site a few months ago about 24 Hour Fitness. The "trainers" there were said to be as bad ( i.e. inexperienced and not knowledgable) as the ones at Ballys. It is a chain that places heavy emphasis on signing up new members and selling personal training packages than in member service after the fact. The 24 hour feature is good though. I wish my gym opened earlier on weekends.

I can't speak to whether there are etiquette issues there. I advise anyone I know who is thinking of joining any gym to do at least one and possibly two or three trial workouts before you join. Look around. Check out the equipment. Talk to some members and ask them what they think of the place. That will give a feel for whether or not it fits what you want. Any reputable gym will allow you to do this and if they don't, it should be a big red flag.

I am from Newark/Hockessin, Delaware, but I workout in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania. I train at the YMCA and I pay $29 a month I think.
