5 Years, No much gain, Can this be the reason?

Hi every body,,

I have been lifing wieghts for the past 5 years. I am very serious in the gym but don's see any big gain. I take protein as well but I dont take any carbs pre and post workout? Can this be the reason???

Do a search on cortisol. it may help.

this sounds pretty good. The benefit of adding dextrose is that it is going to give you an insulin spike. In the face of an insulin spike our bodies can not oxidixe fat so your post work out fat loss will be stopped for a couple of hours (something around 4hrs I believe). However, the insulin spike will shuttle the amino acids in your protein to your mucles qiucker as well as supressing cortisol release.

So which do you want? insulin spike or no insulin spike?

There are some people here that are going to tell you that insulin spiking post w/o is bad and other will tell you that it is the only way. All I am going to say is see what works for you. I personally don;t like to spike my insulin levels post workout (cutting or bulking). I have 2 scoops of whey with 1/2c oatmeal and then I eat a regular balanced meal 1-1.5hrs after that. This has really worked well for me. Others benefit greatly from the insulin spike. So try both and see which one your body responds better to. Everyone is different

more than likely! carbs are energy and if your not eating carbs your body is constantly using your body fat to fuel its self. i eat a bowl of custard 30 mins before lifting waights its got lots of simple carbs. eat anything and everything. Thats if your trying to bulk up.

i have about 4-5 cups of cheerios, a banana, and a nutrigrain bar.

Diet is the most likely issue. I too went to gym for years and ate clean food, but did not see gains until i started counting cals. Look closely at your diet as well as read the sticky "guide to.." for guidance.
