natures best 100% whey protien is my weapon of choice..( please respond on your comments to this supplement, i dont kno if its all that good) but when is the best time to take a protien shake..
i feel that if i take it before i work out then ill be to full to run after my workout and i feel that im taking it too soon.
then i feel that im taking it too late if i take it after i lift because i heard your body needs protien after lifting within 30 minutes of your workout.. so if i take it after the workout then i deff. cant run.
any suggestions?? thnk you

Best time is right after lifting. No doubt about that.

Try splitting up your cardio and lifting into seperate days.

if whey protien is the only stuf you have then post workout is the best time to take is as it is quickly assimulated.

i tried.. but i like to pretty much lift everyday.

Then just take it after your whole workout. There is no set time for protein. The closer to the end of your lifting you take it, though, the better. Also, try taking a shake about 90 min before lifting.

post workout means after your workout preferably within 30mins, as du510 says you also should consume a source of amino acids pre workout although this does not have to be in the form of a protien shake[b]

thank you..
this might be a dumb question.. what is the purpose of taking amino acids before the workout and what are other sources to consume amino acids other than protien shakes?

all protiens are made up of amino acids. ther are 'basically' two kinds of amino acids those which the body can manufacture and those which the body cannot manufacture (known as essential amino acids) in order for the body to maintain an anablolic (muscle building) state it needs a constant supply of amino acids and carbohydrates(simple/complex sugars).

for example i normally have some tuna and a source of carbs 60min pre workout

sorry if this is off topic to this thread
hmmm.. for some reason.. i just thought of this. its stupid but, say if u took a cow and worked it out and tried to maximize its muscle potential to the fullest so that its muscle were far more superior to other cows, then you killed it and took select cuts of meat where the muscle fibers were greater and prepared them for consumption..aka eating them..(even tho the cut wud be tough as hell) do u think there would be more protien in that select cut rather as opposed to a regular cow raised on grass and hay??

It is intended to be taken post workout because of it's ability to be quickly and efficiently broken down into the necessary amino acids. However, prior to your workout is also a good time as protien powders are often rich in BCAAs, which can help reduce catabolism. I also use whey, or other protein supplements, when time is a constraint. However, I do feel whole foods should be higher priority.

make sure to drink the protein right after your workout with water, not milk. the water is much easier to digest and the protein will be assimilated faster
