Can Water hold back absorbtion of certain foods when drank with a meal?

I would think that water could slow down gastric emptying by diluting stomach acids if you drink enough of it, but this has always just been a theory of mine. I always try to drink my water right after I finish eating, and preferably some time later.

My friends joke about how much saliva I have. I used to eat like 1/3 of a container of peanut butter between 2 slices of bread without drinking a single drop of liquid.

If you drink it cold the body takes longer to absorb it because it needs to be heated and it sits there longer. Try drinking water that is room temperature and it will be absorbed faster.

That explains the excessive drooling.

Couldn't resist. hahahaha!

oh and to be on-topic and all: i drink my water after my meal, unless it's a dry-ass meal.

So does this mean drinking a larger quantity of milk, possibly the opposite of stomach acid, would durastically slow down digestion?

Yes, but I would think eating more fat would be a better method of slowing down digestion. It seems to me like you aren't just slowing it down, you are hindering the process. Food may not be digested as properly as it should be. This is just speculation on my part though. Wait for someone who really knows their shit to confirm or deny before you listen to the preceeding statement.

Why is that a bad thing?

Posted by: WilliamB

Yea I wasnt trying to slow down my digestion or anything. I dont even know what slowing my digestion down would do to me...I might if I actually took a moment of my presious time to think about it. I was just curious because I drink a lot of milk attempting to use it as one of my prorotein sources. Is Milk an alrigh secondary protein source?

If anything drinking water should be encouraged and aides with not only digestion but the overall distribution of those nutrients you're ingesting to various regions of the body. Drink the water!

I was reading (I can't remember where) about some guy who had an idea about not eating carbs and proteins together. He said that alkaline was needed to break down carbs and acid was needed to break down protein (or something like that) and that by making the body try to do both at the same time was asking for trouble.

And thoughts?

I've never heard of such a thing. All I know is I need too many grams carbs and proteins to be doubling my portions and reducing the frequency of intake. Not only that, but I like to have a steady supply of both throughout the day.

I remember reading that approach. It suggested not to include carbs and proteins in the same meal. Only fats were allowed to be combined with carbs or proteins. I dont remember the exact reasoning behind this. I think i read about it on the t-mag site.
