Who can stop Vitali Klitschko?

Now, all this dwelling on the past is nice and stuff, but who can stop Vitali Klitchko now? Are there any contenders left? I really love Vitali's powerful left jab and solid right cross. Before the fight, the contenders say that they'll get inside and work with hooks and upper-cuts, but once the opening bell rings they just stand there collecting red leather to the face from afar. As was proven last night with Williams.

Yeah Klitschko's definately a great fighter, I'm disappointed that I missed the fight last night. Did you get a chance to see it? I knew Vitaliu would take care of him with that jab as long as that cut on his eye didn't get reopened.

Yes!! It was a slaughter. Klitschko started dominating Williams 15 seconds into round 1, right after they made initial contact. Vitali was proactive right from the start, and Williams was basically just standing there getting beat up. Klitschko had knocked him down twice in the first two rounds, and then finished him in round 7, I believe. How bad of a slaughter was it? Klitschko had landed well over 200 punches (38% of punches thrown), Williams had landed just 44 punches (22%). Klitschko's face held up really well, but then again, he didn't really get hit.

It was a big mis-match. What was Danny Williams doing entering the fight weighing in at 270lbs?! Mentally the guy just hasn't got what it takes either - there must be somebody out there that can give Klitschko "The iron fist" a better fight.
Heavyweight boxing is definitely in a trough at present, I would say it has been since Holyfield's retirement and now Lewis has retired there isn't really anyone left. Boxing needs a new exciting fighter or three.

I think these two should become professional boxers; Kimbo Slice and Gannon. They def. have the endurance, the chins and the heart for it.

Why do you think Lewis retired?

He's the Great White Hope! We all know how well that has worked out in the past!

Us white guys need heros too

We have so few.

Had Corrie Sanders been in shape, he would have taken Klitschko. He was ahead on all 3 cards, and even out of shape he still fought his a$$ off and hurt Vitali several times.

I also think James Toney could take him. Toney is too slick, too smart, hard to hit, and can take a punch.

By the way, Lewis did fight Klitschko, Lewis won by TKO. Klitschko was ahead on the cards prior to that, but Lennox was starting to come on fairly strong.

He talked of retirement prior to fighting Klitschko, so I don't think he avoided him, he just wanted to be one of the few to get out on top.

I am firmly convinced that Lewis retired to avoid the rematch between himself and Klitschko. If Klitschko had not been cut so bad in his fight vs Lewis he would now be the unified champ.

Great fighters don't last forever, Lewis is 40 now and as mentioned earlier he wanted to retire on top. I heard the other day that he wants to come out of retirement ALREADY. Apparently he thinks in a few months he could be ready to reclaim the title. If he did win, i think that nobody can deny him his place as one of the all time greats. But as I say, I didn't personally see the news article, so it could be bullsh*t. Even if he lost, Lewis always avenges his losses!!!!!!!

Lewis will not come back, Klitschko will destroy him. Although, if Lewis were in his prime the opposite would be true.

Corrie Sanders never fights in shape, he fights once in a blue moon.

DAMN!

Sanders was in shape when he fought Vladmir. True it only took 2 rounds, but he didn't get tired by the end of the first like he did against Vitali.

To me, Lewis fought an old Holyfield, a warn out Tyson and a bunch of journeymen, and lots of people think Mercer actually won their fight.

I can't say that he is one of the greats while during his prime he was knocked out by Rahman, and McCall, and he was beaten up by Briggs until he scored the knockout. Hell, he couldn't knock McCall out during the rematch and McCall wouldn't even fight back.

Lewis never really used his size advantage over his opponents. He could have dominated his opponents but he was too timid, and during most of his career the experts felt he didn't really want to be a fighter.

The HW division is soo weak, I hardly even follow it.

MMA is becoming what boxing was at one time. The fights are outstanding with several at a time.

Klitschko? the guy's huge and strong -but he's got a glass jaw -if anyone can find a decent fighter left in the hwd to fight him you'll see.

I disagree, Lewis and Sanders both popped him with some pretty heavy shots, but neither one could put him on the canvas.

The two have shown us that we need to not get them confused. Vlad has a glass jaw with out a doubt. Vitali has not such problem. Lewis did get some leather in there as anyone who has watched the fight on a DVR in slow-mo will agree. Vitali's jaw snaped back ... then his head followed. That has been the end of many a fighter's day but Vitali stayed up and worked his way through it. Time will tell the tale as others get into the ring with Vitali and test that Klitschko jaw. I suspect that cutting will be his nemisis.

Lewis is too old to be in the ring now. He needs to stay retired. He was never in the same legue as Ali or Luis and should get out while he is on top. Not much worse than watching a once great fighter get has ass whooped by a less than equal fighter solely because of his age.

It is expected that Klitschko will go after Rahman next and if he beats him, go for revenge against Chris Byrd.

I still think James "lights out" Toney can take him.

Holyfield didn't retire. He refuses to, despite health reasons.

Klitschko rocked Lennox their first fight. I too believe Lewis retired to avoid a rematch.

There are no health reasons for Holyfield to retire, he should have retired because he's too old for the sport and can't beat anyone.

He has been forced to retire because they took his license away, he can't fight anywhere in the country.

Lewis talked about retiring prior to his fight with Klitschko, therefore I don't believe he retired to avoid him in a rematch.

Lewis wasn't at all sharp in that fight but he was starting to come on when it was stopped.
Vitali wouldn't beat Lewis.

If Nikolai Valuev proves to be a boxer and not just a freak (he hasnt really fought any opponents of class) I think he will be dangerous.
