I usually do this but then I go talk to someone or drink something so I forget about the exercise. I think I will do what Mudge does but I would like one that played a really loud screaming sound or that sound of a firefighter car.

Posted by: Vieope

Then again the screaming sound would not be a good idea because I would get used to it and if one day someone screamed for help, I would start doing a bench press.

I do a rough count. I look at the second timer on my watch when I finish a set and let no more than 60 sec pass before I do the next set.

Posted by: Mudge

I used to count my breathing, say 15 breaths etc. I would time it before hand so I could judge approximately how much time that was. That was years ago though.

I canīt count anything, even the reps, somehow I start 1, 2, 7, 8, 12, done.

Posted by: Pumpster

Did until it quickly became second nature.

Posted by: rock4832

I always count my rest except on my Max Effort Lift. On that one I wait until I feel confident for the next lift. Everything else is exactly 1 min. Got my stopwatch and everything

ITs obviously working for your abs, gosh damn it they are hot. What is your routine, Iknow its mostly diet probably, but would love to know what you are doing.

Posted by: Prince

My training has always been very instinctive, and no I have never timed my time between sets, I just know when I am ready for the next set. If I am training very heavy I rest longer.

Maybe if you stopped training that way and actually had a plan you wouldn't look like crap!

J/K!

laME!

Posted by: BigDyl

I always get all intense, like WHAT TIME IS IT!!?!?!?!

then someones like 11:52. And I'm like, oh ok. Then i settle down and loose my intensity and have a mediore set.

Posted by: Vince2005

I usally don't but if I am doing pushups I do caont the break time.

Posted by: sabre81

Some of it is diet, some is genetics, a lot of its training. Although, I'm pretty sure that I have good genetics for muscle building (not to mention I have a very experienced coach, aka, my boyfriend).

I do abs everyday that I'm in the gym, so 6 times/week. I start with lower abs, then obliques, then finish with upper abs. I do 4 sets of how ever many reps it takes to create a "burn". Also, I try to vary the exercises that I do all of the time so that my muscles don't get in a routine.

Also, I do a lot of free weights, so my core is always working to stablize your body.

Thanks for noticing my hard work!

For max effort lifts, I wait up to 3-4 minutes between new 1RM attempts.

For dynamic effort lifts, I wait 30-45 seconds depending on the level of intensity used.

For accessory work, I usually wait 90 seconds between sets.

always

me too.

Plus i don't see how you could possibly take 1 min after doing a REAL set of squats.

It takes me 1 minute to get my consciouness back from almost blacking out, nevermind starting the next set.

Posted by: Egoatdoor

Yes. I count down in my head. My rest periods vary from 45 seconds ( high volume days, not training to failure) to 3 minutes ( heavy weight, low rep days).

Same here. I rarely talk to anyone while training so I never get distracted.

Posted by: Tough Old Man

If I'm working w/ super heavy weight I wait 3 min's between sets. If I'm doing lots of reps I try to space it around 1 min between sets.

I used to when i worked out at home, but now at a college gym its tough to watch the clock so much.

Posted by: crazy_enough

I always have for most lifts, on a stop watch, but for things such as squats or deads, I wait until I feel ready to start again, my body tells me!

Posted by: maniclion

I only count if the program I'm trying calls for a set tempo otherwise it's just when my legs stop wobbling or I can comfortably lift the bar and do my targeted reps for the next set. Lifting is like sprinting, you know when you can't go any farther and you know when you've rested enough to go again.

ok

Posted by: DOMS

thats me i'll be doing bench or somthing after some reps i'll go to rack it and my parter will be like wft, i'll be like wtf. damn.

Posted by: sgtneo

i just know when im ready tbh, i can sometimes rest really short and other times need a few mins to recover if i hit it hard

Neo

Posted by: WilliamB

Definetly dont start subtracting mintues in my head from the clock on the wall.

Posted by: call1

If you are spending more than 90 second between sets you are not stimulating the muscle to its fullest, I see people in the gym do a set and stand and talk for 10 minutes,, I think What a waste of good time. Some times people think Iam a quite person in the gym but its because Iam in there for a reason.
Look at them they never get anywhere,, Go figure

Posted by: sgtneo

same i will spend as about 1-2 mins max waiting and im quiet cause i would rather get on with my workout than chat away

Ha that happened to me the other day, my training partner new I was goin for 10 and I put up 11 by counting wrong. Only after we are done is he like, you should move up the weight you just did 4 sets of 11 reps instead of 10. I was like damn wtf.

Posted by: chiquita6683

Religiously, Im like in "the zone" right now.

Posted by: Brolly

true that lol

Posted by: Decker

I have a stopwatch and use 60 seconds as my max interval. It gets tough to continue especially after deadlifts and squats--I have a penchant for seeing stars and nearly collapsing at the conclusion of taxing lifts.

Posted by: Seanp156

No, I usually know when I'm ready. I prefer to listen to my body rather than the clock. Sometimes for warmup sets, I'll do all 2-3 of them without rest in between except changing weight, and then I might take 1-2 minutes for my working sets.

Posted by: sara

Sometimes
Our gym have this cool clock that counts down the seconds/minutes

I time every rest period after each set, usually 30sec. or 60sec. depending on the exercise. 2-3mins. between the last set and new exercise.

Peace
